I look at this and I can hear the fans and blowers, feel the wind and the movement. This stunning build brings back a lot of memories, some good some not so. Well done Scott, I can't wait to see her finished. Will you be posting a video of her in the water when finished for those of us who cannot get a long to see her live?

Dave I started Canberra a few years ago but I had never finished her, I've posted photos of her so people could see her come together as well as the rest of her build. So no I'm not fast just jump from project to project. :heh: Song I look at your beautiful builds and your work blows me away!!!! Thank you for your kind words. Scott

Blimey Scott, she is looking stunning, really coming along nicely, love the the way you are building all the rails.

Im wondering, are these posts in real time with your build as she is coming along so fast, or do you just not sleep

Hi guys as I said in my last post is that I would keep you up too date on the progress of Canberra and I have got some bits and pieces to show, As stated earlier in my post, Canberra has no deck Railing so I've started on her Starboard side with Styrene stanchions and I made some Jigs to help me with the spacings of her five rail. This has worked really well and I've finished the Starboard side and have nearly finished painting I've done the storm grey and the black now I just need to do some small touch ups and paint the small silver bits near the Stanchions to look like buckles. And why I was painting I did some double and triple claets in White. Scott

Used the Chopper 2 and cut all the components for the deck handrails

The rails had been painted in stormgrey no photo sorry but then they were masked up ready for the black rails.

That's the plan at least. The car I use to take the boat to the lake is fine for everyday use but not too sure how it would go crossing the Nullabor. I'd take my falcon but Brisbane doesn't fit anymore! Haha still time to sort something out as it would be great to meet some of the guys from over east and like you said have the three AWD's together for the first time.

My suggestion to Rob awhiles back was for the guys that are coming over to pool your resources and hire a LWB or SLWB (super long wheelbase.....make sure its a turbo diesel)Hiace or Transit for transporting any models you are bringing and a second vehicle for people (picked from who's is most reliable/best range/efficiency/comfort). The other way to do it is to jump on the Indian Pacific for the Perth to Adelaide leg with car (its cheaper Perth/Adelaide than Adelaide/Perth) and drive back in convoy...

Cheers Bruce

PS I would also suggest making up some transport boxes to prevent damage on the long trip.

Cheers Anton, I Heard that your coming over to the Naracoorte Ragatta this year? you'll be able to check out Canberra and Sydney for yourself and it will be the first time ever that HMAS Hobart, Brisbane and Sydney AWD's will sail together! going to be a great photo.Lol
As I said before that Canberra had not been finished and in the Photo's you can see shes missing bits and pieces.
Making the Whip Aerials for above the Hanger

I used a rectangle tube and cut two C sections out of it for the ends of the frames to support the whip aerials

Then I notched the centre and top cross beam

Haha I agree Canberra is such a beautiful build she needs to be finished :)
I guess I'm the same with Brisbane as your Sydney. I'm just going to finish to obvious items that need to be done like finish the railings and the landing lights and I think that's about it really, but will change what needs to be done once Hobart is atleast finished and launched. I'm not allowed to start anything else until Brisbane is presentable - SWMOB standing orders :)

Lol Anton you are quick!!!!! this build of Canberra was about 12 months and then I started Sydney AWD and that was 12 months so I have two ships at around 80-90% done but not finished, I'm doing little detailed pieces for Sydney at the same time as Canberra but I'm Holding back on Sydney a little as she has not been built yet and so many things will change on her :heh: when the RAN finally get her, and Canberra is collecting dust and unfinished so to anwser your Question yes I'd like to finish both Canberra and Sydney before Garibaldi. When I look at Canberra and I see she has no railling on her lower decks and around the top of her hangers she just does not look right and no rigging, it's just got to be finished. Scott

Thanks Lyall for your comments, the SPS49 is the creation of one of our club members here in Australia Task Force 72. Gunter has made these all out of styrene so they are nice and light and so far he has made them in 1/72 and 1/100 scales for some members, He does a fantastic job! It's one of those items I need to try my hand at one of these days. :thumbs_up_1: Scott
