The Aurora Australis is now finished and it had its first on the water run this weekend. A really good stable model on the water. Ron has done a great job constructing this model from very limited information. Attachment:

Neptune The lifeboats were a bit of an experiment. The framing is made from cardboard with the gaps filled with extruded polystyrene sheet. After sanding to shape they were covered in a layer of tissue and epoxy glue. When dry a second layer of epoxy glue was brushed on. The model could then be sanded and filled until smooth. There are a few photos of how I built the lifeboats at: https://goo.gl/photos/QRDFJDH4KPpumJm28

Cool build.
Are those lifeboats fibreglassed over the wood and plastic or merely covered in resin?

1/72 Aurora Australis (built by Ron DeBrueys) |
 |
|
Over the last couple of years a friend of mine, Ron, has been scratch building a 1:72nd scale model of the Australian Antarctic Division Ice Breaker - Aurora Australis. While I have given Ron a hand with making the hull and the lifeboats, the majority of this build is his work. Ron is not a fan of computers so I have asked if he is ok with me putting up some photos of his work on his behalf. The photos below are what he has been up to. Attachment:
File comment: First made a wooden hull.

File comment: After much work a two piece mould was made then a fibreglass hull.
