Here´s the most recent(!?) advances... covering the remaining bits of the hull, rounding (and filling with putty) the stern as well as adding both bilge keels (still a long way to go).

Hello  Ten months after being "laid up on the shipyard", I decided that it was time to resume work. Or at least, try to...  The hull stood well throughout the rest of winter as well as summer, with no warping or bending. Although with a slight weight increase, I guess all the internal reinforcements paid up.  Answering to the "Guest": 1) Yes, there are a lot of reinforcements inside to prevent hull warping or bending (as stated earlier). These are noticeable on my previous photos. 2) Balsa is glued to the main sections with white glue AND nailed (small brass nails). Afterwards, I apply some styrene strips all around the hull using contact glue AND nails (again, small brass nails)... only after that do I apply the final styrene cover OVER the strips with regular plastic modelling glue (I use Revell Contacta glue for this effect). This is a very impressive and demanding model. You are doing a fantastic work on it. A year or so answering to DavisJP you told him that the planking was done with 1.5 MM. balsa wood. I would have thought that it is too weak, but afterwards you cover it with 0.5 styrene and the results are simply splendid. I have a couple of questions: are there any reinforcements inside? And the second question: I believe that balsa is glued with white glue, but de second layer, styrene, you used contact glue? . As far as I can see the result is perfect. No bubbles and perfect joints. Congratulations for a very good job at a very demanding scale.

This is very nice! I have always wanted to build a big scale warship like that. I have done some small scales scratch-building and made some small mistakes that made the hull unstraight by a small amount. For 1/72 scale, that same mistake would be a lot!!! Hello,
Please keep the build coming. I love the work done on these large carriers. I am hoping one day to build a 1/72 carrier myself. (not as large though)
May I ask what you used to bond the styrene to the balsa? I was wanting to try that for one of my builds but didn't as mine are R/C and wasn't sure how it would stand up.
I am planning a static build for a future project for a friend and am again looking into the process of using styrene on the hull.
