OK can anyone point me in direction of some anchor chain please, I've seen this with massively oversize chain and it looks pants. This is 1/350. Preferably e-bay

As far as I know, the only official Tamiya wooden deck was made for the new mold version of their Yamato, which has the kit number 78025. From your photos, you're building the old mold Yamato, which differs significantly from the newer one. So the fact that the Tamiya deck doesn't fit isn't a surprise.
There are cheaper non-Tamiya wooden decks that are designed for your older Yamato.
In this hobby where there are sometimes a million versions of the same subject, it's absolutely essential to make sure the aftermarket parts you're buying aren't restricted to any particular variant of the subject.

Right I bought a wooden deck for this ship and running a blade around the edge to take the excess pieces just for something to do and I thought I'd hold it over where it will be going and guess what, doesn't line up.
I got the Tamiya make deck for the Tamiya Yamato 1/350 and it is not the right deck. Is there more than one type of deck?
Really fed up as these decks are not cheap

Raised means they were covered with a steel plate in real life (i.e. it no longer serves as a porthole).

Next question is about the portholes. Now I have only done two ships but I like to drill out the portholes, personal preference.
With my Yamato some of the portholes are raised and a lot of them are indented. I've drilled out the indented ones but why the others raised?
Thanks for your help

Thank you both very much.
I am very limited with what I can do as I had a stroke 17 years ago and have got very limited use in my right hand. And yes I was right handed so now I not only one good hand but it is not my dominant hand.
I make the most of it as I love building models and pick up many tips from watching really good modellers

I don't believe Japanese ships had a boot topping.
Joe Simon just finished the premium version of the Yamato - with lots of extras. Spend sometime looking at it. It may be inspirational and informative.
Just don't get intimidated - Joe's a master modeler. One of the best of the best.

OK next question please.
The ship I'm building is the Yamato now I can't find any pics that show a black water line between the red hull and the grey, am I right to think there wasn't a black line?
