Looks like air shipping from Hong Kong would be around $100, so the $150 store price I posted for the Border Yamato on the previous page would be more than what you'd pay Squadron at the higher store price but with free shipping to the lower 48 states.

Timmy,

Your price is for the standard Very Fire Musashi kit.

No, mine was for the Border kit, which was what Bob the Stug was referring to - it's different from the Very Fire! See previous posts for discussion on the philosophy behind it (fewer PE and plastic parts, more reliance on 3D printing).

Oops! Sorry! My bad!

So excited to see so many new kits, I'm in a tail spin.

I just got conformation that my Musashi kit has been shipped. Waiting for tracking to start. I'm hoping to be one of the first to get this kit. Bought directly from the Very Fire Factory store.

I do also plan to get the Border Yamato for my collection. Like always their kits are on a slow roll out as usual.

My $350 price was the DX version.

I purchased mine directly from Very Fire factory store. I should be getting mine this week. My price was $219 for the DX Kit and $69 for priority shipping plus tax. Still a very good price.

Are there any waterline display models of Yamato in 1/350 or larger? I seem to recall Tamiya may have that option, but do any of these newer models like Veryfire? (I really, REALLY don't like the full hull models because no one would ever see the ship that way - unless it was in dry dock)

Thanks - I figured it would be easier to ask than spend time trying to figure it out ...

AFAIK the latest Tamiya Yam is the only one.

That's what I thought. Thanks! :thumbs_up_1:

An inbox review of the Very Fire 1/350 Yamato has been posted by KFS Miniatures: https://www.kfs-miniatures.com/1-350-ya ... very-fire/

Interested to hear any comments comparing it to the Tamiya new-tool. One oddity of detail I observe is the magazine for the single 25mm guns (last image: https://www.kfs-miniatures.com/storage/IMG_9616-1.jpg): what should be two holes are depicted here as two raised bumps, which is disappointing.

At the recent IPMS/USA National convention (July 2024) in Madison WI, Dan Kaplan and I opened this kit in the Squadron booth and took a look at it. The moldings, engineering and the details all look terrific. It looks like the did what Pontos did with their 700th scale kit, and recessed the deck, so the wooden deck would fit flush. Can't speak to the accuracy, but was otherwise favorably impressed.

Pre ordered the Border kit, like the idea of reducing the amount of PE, hopefully making the kit easier and quicker to build and using 3D stuff just as detailed. Well I hope so!

From my understanding the release is around November 30. Price is around $350USD.

As early as August 27 and for only $149 USD if buying from Hong Kong: https://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/zoqvk ... bw46b.html

Though I'm sure the shipping will be significant.

Here's a photo I just added to the gallery - a wider shot of Center Force going into action off Samar Island in Oct 1944. The photo, taken from a USN plane miles away, shows Kurita's flagship - Yamato - opening fire with her forward batteries on the escort carriers of Taffy 3, thus commencing hostilities on that morning.

amazing find! thats the first ever photo of yammy firing her guns i know that exists!

No, actually there is another one ... you can see it on my gallery linked below ... here's a teaser - it was shot just at the start of the Ten-ichi-go battle off Okinawa when Yamato fired "beehive" shells at the approaching USN planes ...

Answering the second one, the kit contents can be seen on Hobby Search:

W258: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/11017697
W200: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10486912

Putting the overhead view of the painting diagram side by side is the easiest way to compare. Clearest differences are the extra 25mm triples on the deckedge amidships and the shift from single to triple 25mm elsewhere on the deck.

Comparing the parts tree index, both kits seem to contain identical sprues - same number of each sprue. Only difference seems to be in the instructions for which holes to open in the deck and how many/which 25mm to use. There's the exception of the R sprue, which is shown but shown as not needed in its entirety in the 1944 kit - so don't know if it's actually included. The R sprue contains the stern 25mm triple platforms - these are shown in the inset for where to put the Yamato decal on the stern, but are not shown in the overall painting diagram.
