Hand solder should just work fine. If you have good solder and good flux, then you'd be able to solder the rod (or wire even). I put my experience here.

My experience with solder is like most people, by hand with an iron. If one was to make a cage mast for a model out of brass rod, what would be the preffered method. If there is one. Thanks for any replies.
