Re: Calling all Royal Navy "S"-Class Submarine fans |

I took a bite.
I bought an S-class from Starling Models in 1/700 and building one in full hull.
Thinking about:
HMS Storm P233 HMS Seraph P219 HMS Safari P211
Do we have sources how either of those subs was painted topside, assuming tanks were just dark grey-black. I think Storm would have camouflages as operated in far east, but Safari and Seraph can be grey or blue.
Does anyone know about their paint schemes? Good source?

What's absolutely baffling is how long it's taken for a kit of this important (and aesthetically attractive) type to appear- in any scale! I have mine already and it's a true Starling product; excellent in every way.

I don't think these drawings are all that helpful, mainly because the S Class took many forms. Here is HMSS Scotsman before conversion to a 'slippery S' Here you can see her many forms - In the last photo, her saddle tanks have been removed, her torpedo tubes covered, guns removed and the conning tower replaced with a streamlined sail. I have hundreds of photos of S Class boats and many detailed drawings. Do you have a specific boat in mind?

Calling all Royal Navy "S"-Class Submarine fans |
 |
|
Hello everybody,
Reading the highly recommendable book "One of our submarines" by Edward Preston Young I became interested in British Submarines of ww2 and loosely considered building a model of the S-Class Type. Searching the web for this type of submarine I found a lot of text but very few drawings which might be useful for modelling. (i found out already that OTW designs is offering a kit but I'm thinking of scratch building). My question: Does anybody know a source where to obtain plans or otherwise a book which includes suitable drawings of the (late war) S-class submarine type?
Best regards Stefan
