San Antonio LPD Flight II rendering released: Attachment:
LPD Flight II.jpg [ 162.27 KiB | Viewed 9956 times ]
From " Navy LPD-17 Flight II and LHA Amphibious Ship Programs: Background and Issues for Congress" and https://www.huntingtoningalls.com/lpd-flight-ii/Quote: Compared to the LPD-17 Flight I design, the LPD-17 Flight II design is somewhat less expensive to procure, and in some ways less capable—a reflection of how the Flight II design was developed to meet Navy and Marine Corps operational requirements while staying within a unit procurement cost target that had been established for the program. It essentially looks like they removed most of the structures that cleaned up the Flight I ships' radar cross section. Should be a bit of a win for those that don't like the modern aesthetic as much.

Hi all,
I've just had the opportunity to pick up a Bronco LPD-22 San Diego cheaply. I do like a bit of PE, and noticed PONTOS do a set for the Trumpeter/Gallery LPD-21. Has anyone used this set on the Bronco kit or know if it would suit? I'm sure there are some small dimensional differences but figured the small details would be close enough. But it's a fair investment if most of it won't fit!
Thanks, Darren

Hi All. I'm looking to do a build of the Gallery 1/350 LPD 21 USS New York. Bit of a long term project. Have been doing quite a bit of research on the class, aiming to get some of the uniqueness of NY. So far have picked up: a. Never Forget mural on Hanger door b. Mural (wings) in Hanger c. Message on steel plate above ramp (flight deck to vehicle deck) d. NY letters on well deck ramp e. Wooden propeller above ramp from Well deck to upper vehicle deck (anyone know the significance of this) Any others people know of that may have been missed? Obviously which can be seen easily. Also looking to add some scratch build inside the ship, vehicle decks and overhead cranes in hanger and well deck. Lastly lighting to the ship, with it being quite simple on the outside, needs something to add a bit of extra detail, beside the PE from Pontos. Here is where I have been struggling to find photos (or some I question) and info to help. 1. Bridge and Flight control lighting. Red or blue after dark? 2. Well deck lighting. Lots of photos for off white during day but are lighting green or similar during night? http://www.navy.mil/view_image.asp?id=1818443. Flight deck (sides and deck itself) color during night operations. Appear to be green but not sure if due to camera http://www.navy.mil/view_image.asp?id=115833http://www.navy.mil/view_image.asp?id=130824http://www.navy.mil/view_image.asp?id=2521174. Above hanger door, on sides of railing appears vertically. Two red and one green. What are these used for and how do they operate. Same photo next to ladder below golf club, green, amber, red lights http://www.navy.mil/view_image.asp?id=231030 5. Navigation lights. Have found the two mast head lights, one above bridge and another on second mast. Need to know where a. Starboard and port side lights are b. Task lights on second mast. Found a diagram from the vendor who supplies the lights for lpd class, but not exactly where they appear on the second mast http://www.rslfibersystems.com/products/navsiglightsNot all of the lighting will be possible due to how the model is constructed, but aiming to get as much as possible on. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If anybody has anything especially the lower and upper vehicle storage areas, please post them below..... If you're still interested in vehicle storage deck pics, then send me a PM with your email and I'll send you what I have. I've managed to find a bunch of pics from the Internet and save them to my computer for future reference if and when I build the San Antonio myself. I'm not in the military/Navy, so I can't tell you if the interior of the ship is looking forward or aft, etc. or specifically which of the 3 vehicle decks the picture is from. But I do know they are all of the LPD-17 class.
