Holy moly this is fantastic. I got here from your response to my Gambier Bay post on Calling All Ship fans. Your work is amazing. And thank you for the information you provided in my post.

Excellent build and the information given on this topic is priceless, thanks. I can see in the museum pics that you made a Veteran very happy, that's giving back on a Grand scale.

Well, after a couple of health problems and a serious modelers block, I have finished Mount #9 40mm/56 Twin Bofors in 1/32 scale. This diorama will be donated to the Millville Army Air Field Museum in the name of Owen Garrison. He was an original Plank Owner aboard CVL-26 USS MONTEREY. At the age of 93 He serves as a Docent, and along with His wife, opens the museum every Saturday to welcome visitors.
First I must offer my thanks to Rick E Davis and Tracy White who answered many questions, and supplied very detailed photos.
The ship structure is scratch built. The gun mount is a SRS resin kit with 20 parts and many items added. The jeep/mule, is a reworked Tamiya kit. The 40mm rounds, with clips, and spent brass, are from Orange Hobby. The figures are a combination of Italeri PT sailors, and Warrior PT crew. With the case the size is: 18 1/2" wide 16 1/2" deep 14 " high
Any And All Questions are Welcome

Goodwood,
I had planed to place a TBM-3 on the flight deck, but since it is now 10" high and 17" wide I didn't think it would right.

That is really amazing work, Bob. In fact I don't see why it would be that difficult to extend the flight deck portion inward a bit so you can tack on a 1/32 scale aircraft on there! You could have its wheels tied down right near the edge to give the gunners a bit of shade...
Since it's a CVL you're doing, it could be any number of late-war Navy birds...

Here is the start of the floater net basket being soldered together, and the 1125 +/- floats for the net.
