Yes the weathered and fading waterline was intentional. I didn't want too much weathering either though as Revenge only commissioned in 1916 and I was depicting her in 1918.

She is painted with Humbrol enamels. The hull plating is the straightforward masking tape and spray primer type method. As the only hull detail pre-existing was porthole outlines and an overly wide boot topping mark. I painted the entire thing black first, then masked off the waterline using suitable thickness masking tape. Then painted the lower hull and masked that off. Humbrol No. 73 and some shading with Humbrol No. 70.

Then once the camouflage scheme was done and everything unmasked I varnished the lot and used AK Interactive Weathering Pencils to weather the lower hull section and extend some corrosion up intermittently into the waterline to give the weathered look. Again I kept it minimal enough. I found that keeping some acrylic thinner close by in a paint mixing plate you could dip the pencils into the thinner and mix and match colours together. Or draw it along with your finger to give thinner subtler tones and corrosion effects.

Then obviously varnish it all up at the end to seal everything in place once you are happy with it.

So as a stickler for well painted lower hulls and correctly placed boot toppings, you have done a super super job.

Not only it looks atmospheric and beatiful, and weathering is spot on, you also got a very accurate look to the lower part of the boot top, how it is mottled and blurry - mixing or worn off as it meets hull red.

I dont know if this was intentional, or accidental, but it came out perfectly and I planned to do this on my next build, and so cool to see it. If you want to elaborate on techniques used Id be happy to hear it.

Unfortunately Pieter I did not do a build progress report or photos this time. In the interest of getting her done finally! As she had been sitting on my bench semi-complete for far too long. However I did document my builds of HMS Ramillies 1944 and HMS Royal Oak 1937 before. This case was very similar really. Superstructures were simpler ad fewer AA guns and no radars. Though the paint scheme was much more challenging:
