Thank you Jim, i saw this model while doing researches for mine, as all the other models of John Prothero - Thomas it's a masterpiece.
I actually have a second inflexible model, that i'm planning to do in the "modernized" version represented by john...after at least another gazillion project that i have in mind!

Beautiful work on both kits. I had my Combrig Italia kit out the other night and was wondering how much of a beast that bridge was going to be to build. When it comes time, I may try my hand at drawing and 3D printing it, if I can get the material thickness thin enough.

thank you Devin! :cool_2:
As per the 3d printing of the deck i'm not convinced that it will be less tricky to handle of the pe one...
if i'll ever need to do that kit again, however, i'll join the 3 pieces with some masking tape, trace shape and holes on a thin brass sheet and cut a new, single piece bridge

I wonder, how did you do the base on these? I can see you have left some space for a cover. Did you custom make glass cover (or acryllic)? Or did you order them somewhere? I would love to know more on this as I want to find a working solution for my models that is also as elegant as yours.

Hi Pascalemod, i had the base (and the plexy case) custom made for me from the plexy case supplier of my company.
I had the base and the case made with the same specification of the ones we use for our exposition models, glossy black 15 mm plexy base and 6 mm ultra clear plexy case.

Building myself an 1880s ship, I appreciate why noone really builds these because of this "hellish contraption" situation everywhere really. Very cool work you did! well done!

Jim, you posted them when i asked in the main forum what that hellish arched contraption on the bow was :D and these pictures were very useful for general detailing of the model :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

so thank you again for posting them, hope they'll be useful for other modelers!

Outstanding!

Question - for Inflexible, how did you handle the complex structure supporting the larger boats aft? Did you assemble the whole structure in advance before gluing it down? Did you paint the rest of the stern superstructure before you installed?

JC, i assembled and painted the hull and decks before building the complex (and damned) structure on the stern.
I found out that it was almost impossible to build it as per the instructions, so i placed every single segment down one by one (after having painted them white) trying to center them on the reeeeeally small notches on the bulkheads, then mounting the catwalks.
Be careful with the forward single element, as the catwalk is too short to place in the correct notch on the deck. I replaced the catwalk with a strip of brass from the frame of a fret that was of the right width.
One last note, i had to slightly adjust the cradles shape in order to accomodate the micromaster boats.

hope this helps.

Cheers,

Stefano

These are really beautiful models. Italia especially has the extreme steampunk look of many late 19th century warships.

thanks to you all.

Hypno7, the white trim is a really thin xtradecal decal stripe, as is the boot line, and the "antifouling red" is a thin decal stripe too.
I think that this is (for me) the only way to achieve a really thin, constant line...

Cheers,

Stefano
