Came out well enough I think considering it is a phone photo taken through the display case. Good lighting helps a lot!

I had H.M.S. Resolution placed on the mantelpiece temporarily the other day and the (rare...) morning sunlight caught her nicely. So I grabbed a couple of quick phone photos:

Many thanks for the kind words Jim, appreciate it. I like unusual things that you don't often see modelled. And the Revenge Class have so many different configurations and camouflage schemes to choose from.

Martin had asked before for some more photos of HMS Revenge, so here we go:

I had built plenty of kits ‘out of the box’ years ago, but had never used photoetch or 3D printed parts or real wood decks. So I wanted a relatively cheap and easy kit to try first. Before attempting anything more elaborate. I had built a 1:500 Revenge class, listed as Royal Sovereign back in the 1990s when Revell re-released it. So I decided on that. As Atlantic Models had released a very reasonably priced photoetched detail set for it. So if I made a complete mess of it the loss would not be too severe.

Also the Revenge Classes are pleasing looking ships. And you very seldom see any models of them. I decided to build Arkhangelsk first, ex. HMS Royal Sovereign. In her Soviet fit as she appeared just before returning to Britain in 1949. But then I came across the colour profile of Ramillies in her 1917 dazzle scheme in RA Burt’s book. Which looked great, such a crazy colour scheme for a battleship. So mission creep kicked in and I decided to do that as well.

I also got the HMS Ramillies A Last Salvo book for reference, which had a picture of her in her 1944 fit with the British Pacific Fleet style camouflage scheme. I couldn’t decide between that and the 1917 dazzle scheme so ended up doing both. Then having done those two it would have been a shame to leave out the tragic HMS Royal Oak. So I decided to do her as well. That made it three of the five. At that point I had come so far I may as well complete the entire class. That left HMS Revenge and Resolution. Again I couldn’t decide between Revenge’s 1918 dazzle camouflage and her 1941 unofficial camouflage. So I decided to do both. Also at this point I decided to do Royal Sovereign in her 1942 unofficial scheme. As it always looks so well in photos.

Then finally HMS Resolution. I initially intended to do her in her 1942 disruptive scheme but the uncertainty over the colours bugged me. So in the end I opted to complete her in her 1935 fit.

So here they are, all eight of them. The ex Frog kit with KA Models 1:500 deck planking and the Atlantic Models photoetch set as well as turrets and AA guns from MicroMaster and figures from Toms Modelworks:
