For the deck I went with the method of masking off and painting individual planks with various colors. A tape cutting mat is very handy for this (I use Infini's one), biggest challenge is probably controlling the contrast between the different shades as its very easy to overdo it. Off the top of my head, I used Mr. Color c44, Tamiya XF-57, XF-78 and XF-55.
I don't have any good pictures of the process for this model but here are some photos of the same method used on a tugboat I finished last year.
