I liked the Modell-kasten wire- but even at its thinnest ( o.047 mm) it was still too thick for antennas in my view

The way to obtain even diameters ... is when pulling the sprue ..[u]NOT[/u] to have it in mid-air and pulling in both directions, as that way you get alternate side cooling and ergo you get uneven thickness and blobs etc

But do as per the illustrations in the above link
Stick the melted( melting) plastic to the workbench and pull in [u]ONE[/u] direction only and you will get a beautiful thin strand .

for even and controlled sag;[/u][/i][/b]
rig all you halyards and standing rigging first.

get the model warm -( close the doors and heat the room ( with an electric fan heater or similar )-around 25 degrees or so
- up to but no more than 30 degrees.)==> as you might have in the hottest summer day in Northern/ mid Europe.



the model and its base will expand sightly as it gets warmer

THen.. rig the model with her the antenna etc and tighten the sprue with my smoke method in the step-by step

Let the model cool and ALL the fore and aft antennas ( or slack rigging ) will have the same sag

Thanks for the hint, Jim. I know that you and many other modelers have been very successful with stretched sprue. I tried to work with it several times but it simply didn´t work for me - it always turned out uneven in diameter and application, also I found it prone to breaking easily. UNI Caennis works so much better for me, just that it is impossible to obtain the sagging effect with it, that´s the only drawback.

That is a very sharp and atmospheric model. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

I concur that the light blue works well in this instance !

ref rigging;

I have used successfully the 0.047 mm Model-lkasten wire in 1/700 for standing rigging,
but still prefer stretched sprue for running rigging as sprue can be drawn to half that thickness again quite easily-

I used modelkasten 0.1 for rigging, it's supposed to also be 0.06mm but it's been working quite well for me, but i remember they also have 0.04mm ones if you really wish to go thinner

Thanks. I rather meant what you used for the main rigging. What you used for halyards is rather good, but I am seeking for something thinner but capable of "controlled sag" ;) . UNI Caennis still seems likr the best trade-off to me for halyards. It is the best to to scale but has to be taut. Life´s not easy :big_grin:

Thanks!! I brought a panasonic gx9 with telephoto lens not long ago, i'm finally getting the hang of it, but tbh i think light box i brought recently made the most difference!
