Topic review - What if surrender ceremony?

Sounds like you've got some plans for a (hopefully not nuclear) war there. It all sounds as thouhg you put a lot of thought into it. I would say that there should be some AEGIS cruisers, because, well, it doesn't seem right to have a surrender without thanking even the smaller, not as heavy hitting ships.

Cliffy, I think that, considering this is at a time period where the Iowas would be in commission, there would be escorts. If these included any cruisers/destroyers, well, I think that an airgroup of 41 would get past the SAMs and CWIS systems on board each ship. This is pretty formidable considering the CWIS can shoot down missiles. But if the Kuznetsov has Subs escorting it...

I'd probably say they hit Kuznetsov with harpoons, but not enough to sink it. I don't think Kuznetsov would ever get in range of the 16's, especially with her air group present.

I like! One thing though, what did Iowa and Big J hit Kuznetsov with? If they hit her with 16" shells I would tend to think she'd be no more!

A thought for the surrender ships. What about depicting them still with some battle damage? Could be neat I think.

In an alternate timeline like yours, there is absolutely nothing that would dictate whether Mo or Wis would or would have been recommissioned. In fact, given the presence of the active USSR threat, I would think that all four ships would be already reactivated by the '80s, if they were deactivated at all.

I've been toying with the idea building this surrender ceremony in 1/350

The story would go something like, after a brutal 3 year naval war between the USSR and USN there is finally peace. There have been heavy losses on both sides, with the USSR losing the Kirov class Frunze and USN losing a nimitz class carrier. Iowa is undergoing repair in Long Beach after sustaining heavy damage by more than 10 shipwreck missles. Kuznetsov was rushed to be finished, but undertook heavy fire from both Iowa and New Jersey, putting it out of action for at least a year.

The surrender takes place near Vladivostok. Kirov is present, a Sovremenny, Enterprise, and New Jersey (site of surrender) and possibly some AEGIS cruisers?

What do you guys think? I have to work with ships that are available already. Trumpeters Nimitz is a bit too expensive to substitue Enterprise with and I already am working on the 1984 NJ. I have a Sovremenny as well. Does this interest you? Perhaps somebody else could help with the story. I"m trying to end the war before Missouri or Wisconsin is recomissioned because they receive the honor of fighting in the Gulf War.
