Rick Davis has noticed that ships in the atlantic were less likely to have deck patterns later in the war; this may have been due to the lesser air threat.

Hi,

thank you. It seems so that all decks a painted Deck Blue overall, so no pattern.

Try here http://sun-wais.oit.unc.edu/hyperwar/OnlineLibrary/photos/sh-co-mk/camouflg/usn-wwii/dd692-ls.htm

It has a bunch of camo scheme drawings for the Sumners as well as some info about all the schemes worn by the Sumners and Gearings. Sadly there's no drawings of the Gearings but there is a photo of one towards the bottom.

According to the site, only 3 Gearings carried Ms 33a/28d
Quote:
These ships were reportedly painted in Measure 33a colors -- Ocean Gray (5-O) and Light Gray (5-L) on vertical surfaces. Exposed decks were Deck Blue (20-B) overall.

* DD-742: Frank Knox.
* DD-743: Southerland
* DD-805: Chevalier

The layout drawings are unavailable on the Naval Historical Center's site but!!!!
Quote:
# Order # CF7
Drawing of Measure 33a Design 28D, for DD-710 (Gearing) class, dated October 1944 but redrafted several decades later.
This drawing shows the patterns on both starboard and port sides, and on the superstructure ends.
For more information on this item contact The Floating Drydock, whose Web Site can be readily found using standard Internet search engines.

Hope that helps man!
