"drastic"

Many thanks for the reply. I take in what you say, however, I personally have doubts: admittedly without any firm evidence of my own, about Snyder and Short's paints and everyone else's for that matter. "Wefalk" replied to a question that I raised on a similar subject about '96er Grau. No one has yet found the specifications for the paint shades of the German Navy before the introduction of the RAL system. I thought that the remark about "Nimbus" grey may have been an as yet unrecognised clue to the true shade.

US's assessment of "Nimbus Grey" (https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/82612974402782722/ ) is not very accurate al all! Graf Spee would have still been painted in pre/early war RAL 7000 Dunkelgrau (https://www.shipcamouflage.com/images/kriegsmarine2.jpg). Nimbus grey is lighter and contains some blue.

Gentlemen,

I was browsing the USN intelligence report recently linked to the site by Fred Branyan,in the "Deutschland fans" topic and came across the ADMIRAL GRAF von SPEE's hull being described as painted "Nimbus gray." Do any American correspondents know if this was a description of an official pre-WW2 USN colour and if so, what was, or is, its modern equivalent?

Thank you.
