Topic review - IJN hull color

Id say you should lighten up this XF9 - it is way too dark on any model, but may be for some giant Yamato in 1/200 it could be ok, over a white primer or smth. Paints for antifouling were usually quite bright red (if they were red) thanks to the poisonous stuff they added in. It was black also when it was almost tar like stuff (russians used it) and brighter green (again Russians and Italians and French used it) - which had copper in it. Whatever Tamiya delivers needs work.

XF9 + some orange paint diluted 9:1 overspray might be a little more accurate

Tamiya hull red is a match for most color chips based on available evidence.

dear all (and especially Colourcoats team) :

what underwater hull color is definitely the less false considering IJN ships ?

something more like IJN11 bright red, or IJN12 dark browny color ?

thanks !

(that means also : are japanese manufacturers true when suggesting gunze h17 cocoa brown, or tamiya hull red ?)
