Can any of your colleagues give me the exact dimensions, including width, of the Heller Soleil Royal 1/100 model?
I would be sincerely grateful!

Here are some pictures of the build, words unfortunately in german, but the pictures should speak for themselves.

I have one of these. It would be interesting to know your thoughts on this kit.

Soleil Royal is one of my most favored vessels and I would like to make a solid effort when I do get around to building the kit.

I have read several comments here about the Heller Le Glorieux and Le Superbe as being excellent kits, which they are. However, there is one detail issue that bothers me a little; there are no planks on the hull. The models have heavy wood grain but no planking detail. My fix is simple. I sand off the wood grain detail since it isn't noticeable on real sailing ships. Indeed, it is sometimes difficult to see individual planks on real ships, so I simply remove the wood grain. These kits do build up into beautiful models either way.

............
-the 1/100 Soleil Royale-

-however you can do worse than be inspired by a polish or Czech modeller who had a very long thread about how he built his--to a standard almost unimaginable!!!!
maybe some of our other readers can chime in with a link?...........

Hi Kelly,

I'd use a heat gun in that situation as a regular hair dryer wouldn't get hot enough, try it out on a few scrap pieces though to get a feel for it...the last thing you want to do is melt it, another option is soak it in hot water, but being a large piece you might need to boil the water first, hope this helps.

I am currently working on the Saint Louis, which I believe is almost the same mold as the Couronne, and one of the bottom halves of the hull is badly warped, and no matter what I do, I cant get it to un-twist. Has anyone else run into this problem with heller kits? And if anyone has, is there a trick to it?

Thanks

Kelly

The SHIPS IN SCALE issue of March/ April 2008 has an excellent article on this kit. I think it would be a huge benefit for you to find a copy and look it over!

Hi,

I'm from Brazil and I'll travel to US next August, for vacations. I want to buy a "wood Tall ship model" in Boston, NY or Washington, but I didn't find in the internet a store's name and address in those cities that sell it.

Can you tell me a name and address's store(s) in those cities that sell "wood Tall ship models"?

Please, answer me by e-mail: gilpolli@hotmail.com

Thanks so much.

I bought a kit today, but the assembling instruction is in French. Could someone share English instruction with me, if there is any?

Hey, if you just go to the modeler's section and look up my name
Gary Gobel, you can see the sailing ships I've done.

Kym Knight,
I checked out your models........very nice. I have the corvette and type VII and have been thinking about a similar display. Just finished Clay Blairs two volume set on Hitler's UBoat war. Great read.

Jim Bauman,
Thanks for your outstanding instructions on attaching pictures. I checked out your models as well..........lots of talent and hard work.

I really enjoy the chance to talk with others who like this hobby!

Once you've clicked "Add the file" for your picture, and the picture has been uploaded, there is new option under the reply box called "Attachments". Next to that is a drop-down box with the names of each of your pictures. Select the one you wish to put at your cursor in the reply box, then click place inline
seiran-01.jpg
So it'll look like that, as opposed to being put all at the end of the post.

Note that if you don't fiddle around with the "Place inline" option, all uploaded pictures will be placed at the end of your message.

I'm not seeing a place in line to hit, what are you referring to?
