After reading (Main Forum) about Matt Enoch's problems with computers and related issues, I can relate closely with his troubles. I'm sure he will come out on the upper side of his problems with time & patience.
I also had issues which will follow my hobby interests for a long time back in July when I upgraded my PC to a Win 11 compatible model. I will certainly not classify myself as any kind of computer whiz, but I do have many years experience working on CAD and other computer software. So, I am not blaming anyone else when this problem arose.
After my upgrade I was checking my model ship directory (kept on a separate dedicated flash drive) and saw what I thought was a duplication of files on my C:/ (internal) drive. I deleted the duplicate directory.

- BIG MISTAKE!!! I had deleted the entire contents. When I got over the initial shock, I was able to restore some of the files (I don't know why) but the majority of 6 years worth of 3D drawing files were gone. Thanks to my friend and fellow forum member Flinger747, he was able to Dropbox me the files I had sent him over 6 years and that helped out to a small extent. As an example of what was gone - I had drawn up almost the entire superstructure for BB-55 in 1/200 scale - this was somewhere around 25 files which are now gone forever. Well, I could pay a computer expert to try to restore that drive, but as this is a hobby, I can't justify the cost.
Long story short - With almost no knowledge of Win 11 or how it's file directory is set up, I jumped right in without taking time to understand the new O.S. software. So, this is a lesson for all - do some study on your upgrade before putting it into first gear and dropping the clutch...!!
So, my hat's off to Matt and hopes that his computer woes are past tense for him, as well.
