Thanks for posting peter, I look forward to your builds, Litho plate is an alliminium, it very light, easy to bend and cut, its what is left after the printer has finished with his printing work. they dont use alot of it these days, but it is still about. My good friend Dave W got my supply for me.

What is the "litho" that you use for plating? Is it brass sheet? Is it what we in the US call "flashing?"

I have now read completely through four documented builds--Kiev, Indiana, Duane, and Indianaplois--and have never learned more about shipbuilding. I'm late to this hobby, but will start posting documented build for three small ships in 1:160: a 173' WW II subchaser, a 173' Aggressive class minesweeper, and a 210' Reliance-class cutter (both pre- and post- the 1980s rebuilds.

I have tried to keep my log-in up-to-date, but seem to be posting as "guest."

Thank you! I am a newbie here, and have just read through the Kiev and Duane threads over the past three days--the most enjoyable reading I have had for many years. I've built an Active-class cutter in 1:160, and am now building a Reliance-class. The techniques you and Dave have shown have helped me beyond any reasonable expectation. Now on to the rest of the builds . . .

I just want to thank you for this splendid thread. I have dropped in from time to time without ever commenting on it and I just want to say thank you and may you beat all the health problems that you have. It is an inspiring site to see the creation of such a fine vessel and it gives hope to all of us procrastinating builders.

Photos from the Kiev commissioning reminded me of patient Duane... And the Admiral was looking really great in the photos...

Great to see USS Duane on the top of the board And I shall thank the person that did the honour . It is good to hear that a new build from the master may on the way

The CIC said I could build a new ship as long as I get rid of a few. so when the weather picks up, and I finish my last 7 treatments, one may see a new build.

Hear hear Dave, it wobe good to have these sort of reference builds available even if transfered to a different board in the Scratchbuild section. It is amazing the inspiration I have received from looking at the Admiral's work and many others. Hope your health improves soon Admiral, too many ships left for you to show us how to build!

Glad to see you are doing ok, sir---Since you built the US Coast Guard Duane (one of the larger cutters) and Bill Waldorf just finished my( much smaller) US Coast Guard 83' WPB, perhaps they should be shown side by side as the 'long and short of it' during WW2---both did anti-sub work and my 83' served at Normandy as well

Hi Ron Good to hear from you. I think this build like the other great builds of yours and Bill's should perhaps be permanently at the top of the board as your Duane build has so much to offer in information to the scratch builder that it would serve so much better as a permanent part of the board and not drift on to other pages. I hope this will be so.

Hi Les, Im still here, I go to see the specialist at the end of this month, keeping my fingers crossed, im going down very very slowly but looking on the bright side.

Im doing thing that I did when I was a lad, ridding on steam trains, the smell of hot boiler steam and smoke brings back many memories.

Was wondering how you were doing and getting a little worried. It's good to see you on the board again. Keep the positive attitude. The Pirates will drink a tot of Rum to you.
