Looking for a set of deck plans for the Charles F. Adams class. A booklet of general plans would be ideal, but almost anything would be an improvement.

Having just completed the Airfix 1:600 "Rommel" as HMAS Brisbane, I tend to think this little kit is an excellent basis for a CFA project. A few others posted "why bother" and attached pics of the Dragon and Revell 1:700 offerings which didn't look as good a quality to me. Certainly some scratch building to do with regards the Ikara and Phalanx and RHIBs, and a lot of detailing added, but its a great little kit. Must be one of Airfix last ones. Does have some strange things, like the stem anchor on the starboard side which is wrong, a few tricky seams on the front surface of the bridge, and a nasty mast arrangement which if I had to do it again would probably replace at least partly with scratch built. But the end result was very pleasing. Can be seen here: https://uk.airfix.com/community/forum/1 ... of-replies

Hello Ayala,

seems like we're on the same boat here

You might want to check out this site: https://www.rc-modellbau-schiffe.de/wbb ... 085e9bed51

It's in German by an ex-crewmember but the pictures speak for themselves. On page 18 you find everything you need to know about the masts during her being fitted with RAM.
I find it to be super helpful while I am building my own 1/700 Ltjens.

Cheers!

Hi,

I'm looking for detailed photos of the mast on the Ltjens class destroyer of the German navy on ships with the Mk-144 Missile Launcher for RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) installed.

I wonder if anyone could share them.

Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Ayala Botto

I believe Ltjens Class Destroyer of the German Navy (former and modified Charles F. Adams DDG of the US Navy) carried a RHIB on the Starboard side rather than a ship boat, although I couldn't found any photo with this evidence.

Anyone could help with this issue sharing a photo?

I believe the wale boat was never replaced and was always carried at the Port side, anyway. Correct?

Thanks in advance.

here are some pics of a 1/72 RAN Perth class DDG41 HMAS Brisbane on its first test run. I am building it for a TF72 Clubmate who served on her.

Hull and fitting's by APS models, laser cut Superstructure by Nelson Petteys (NELCADs) (slightly modified for the Aussie version), various bits n pieces sourced from Shapeways (triple torp. tubes ,SPS10 and SPS40 radars still to be fitted) or scratchbuilt (funnel tops and SPS52 radar).

I too was in Mayport when Luetjens visited. Recall distinctly being impressed with her mooring at Bravo Pier without the aid of any tugs, just twin screws and rudders...nice ship handling. At the time US ships always always had tugs assist.

Cheers,

A 1/350 CF Adams in plastic is a no brainier to me. The CF Adams class served the USN for decades, and also the German navy. Moreover it's a very handsome ship.

This photo was taken in Salamis Naval Base, January 2002. The front DDG is Formion, ex Joseph Strauss and the other is Kimon, ex Semmes.
Eeeh, isn't the ship in front one of the former Dutch frigates from the Kortenaer class?

A set of highly detailed and very accurate 3D-printed 5"/54 Mk.42 mounts in various scales is now available for your Charles F. Adams class / Ltjens-Class destroyer models.

G'day Guys, a few of us on Facebook are trying an idea for getting a 1/350 scale CFA DDG injected molded kit.
We have started a page on Facebook to act as a petition to try and get one of the modelling companies attention.
Its only being going for a couple of days but if you are keen for a kit just like the page and that acts as your vote. No idea how this little plan will work but nothing to lose by trying.
