Can someone confirm that the light grey areas on the deck of the USS Blue Ridge LCC-19 are now painted with the same dark grey colour of the remaing deck?

Hi,

I�m a little bit confused about the Air, Surface and Navigation radars on LCC-19 on her current configuration, probably because during her service time she has been submitted to multiple upgrades.

I �google� on the WEB and I gather the following information about the 3 types of radars (Air, Surface and Navigation) on LCC-19:

SPS-64(V)9 - Navigation Radar
SPS-67(V)1 - Surface Search Radar
SPS-40E - Air Search Radar
SPS-48E - 3D Air Search Radar


I believe the SPS-48E (3D SPS-48E (3D Air Search Radar) has been definitely removed, but regarding the other radars types (Air, Surface and Navigation), who can help me to identify which one is currently installed on LCC-19 Blue Ridge?

I'm looking to replace the original plastic radar parts on USS Blue Ridge LCC-19 - Trumpeter 1/700 kit, with Photo etched ones in order to proceed with this project (http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=157900)

BTW how do you call the area on both sides of the LCC ships where the RHIBS (Starboard Side) and the Utility Boat and the Admiral's Barge (Port Side) are located? Sponsons?

Looks like a 40' Utility Boat. Admiral's Barge should be a 33' Personnel Boat.

USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) was one of many ships involved in Operation Frequent Wind, evacuating Americans, Vietnamese and third country nationals by helicopter from South Vietnam on 29 April 1975.

The kit history for this ship is interesting:

The first release was in resin, by Waveline, a subsidiary of PitRoad. Released in 1997 as LCC-20 Mount Whitney: HM-14. Resin hull and superstructure parts, complimented by white metal detail pieces. The kit includes photo-etched for radar and antennae (but not handrails). Waterline hull only. This kit builds to the 1997 antenna configuration, and includes AA weapons and splinter shields forward of the superstructure.

PitRoad released an injection plastic version of the kit (developed in conjunction with Trumpeter) in 2005: PITM-25E. This kit included a PE set from LionRoar for antennae and ships rails. I don't see that the PE set was ever released separately by Lionroar. Option for full hull or waterline. MSW review here: [url]http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/misc/amphib/700-lcc20-pr/trumpeter-review.html[/url], which notes that PitRoad once offered the kit without PE as well.

Trumpeter followed up with a release of the Blue Ridge, circa 2004 and Mount Whitney, circa 1997. Edit: Cover box art is different for each kit, and while most parts are interchangeable, the circa 1997 kit includes a mid-hull deck piece that is cast for AA weapons forward of the superstructure, while the circa 2004 kit does not. Each kit also contains a specific sprue for antennae for the specific 1997 or 2004 time period.

Hi,

What's the best PE set for the 1/700 Trumpeter Amphibious Command Ships - LCC Blue Ridge Class?
As far as I know there is no specific set produced for this model.
