Hey Tico,

If you are looking for a kit of the Newport Class LST, Orange Hobby makes a USS Newport LST-1179 in 1/700 scale(Resin Kit). I posted a link from Free Time Hobbies site to show the kit. But a few places I get my kits form have it out of stock. You might get lucky doing an internet search for a shop that has it in stock...
http://freetimehobbies.com/1-700-orange ... -lst-1179/

If you are looking for 1/350 scale. Iron Shipwrights has the USS Newport LST-1179 in 1/350(Resin Kit).

Hope this helps in your search for the kits you are looking for...

Thomas

JAG is no longer in business; their molds were picked up by Admiralty Modelworks, which hasn't resumed production on all of the JAG molds.

Your absolutley right sgt....i just went ahead and bought it because i thought...eh what the hell...... i had enough cash at the time, and iv'e been wanting this kit for quite sometime now.....ever since i bought the wasp and new york...i'd been looking for an LSD to square off my 1/350 ARG......but i agree they couldve have done this kit better...... the lack o conex boxes were dissapointing i will admit......aircraft not so much because LSD's dont typically carry them anyway, and i had boxes upon boxes of USMC aircraft stockpiled after my LHD and LPD build.... the USMC combat vehicles and landing craft i admit they should've done better....... 1 m1 abrams and 1 lcac are small potatoes...... i would've been overjoyed to see them include something different like 1/350 Navy seabee equipment, and even the LCM-8 landing craft instead of stuff trumpter and gallery models has already put out in to the market in spades...... (emphasis on the Seabee equipment like bulldozers and front end loaders, and LCM-8's), even with all those setbacks, i still like the kit....just like you said couldve been done much better... for something retailed for over 300$ :censored_2:

I have it, and as with all the other orange hobby kits, the casting is beautiful. For the pricetag though, I am a little disappointed. NO aircraft, one single M-1 Abrams tank, and NO connex boxes which are a staple on the deck of these ships.

The design of the kit will make painting the welldeck a challenge, and even more of a challenge if you want to illuminate the welldeck.

This is going to be a commission for a customer, I had intended on getting one for myself, but after looking through the kit and comparing it with the pricetag, I opted to spend my $$$ on other stuff.

Has anybody gotten the new Harper's ferry LSD from hobbylinc in 1/350 scale?

Anyone built the Lindberg LSD? Odd box scale of 1/288 but I've read about some people using some of the 1/300 or 1/250 PE sets for detail. Lindberg did a pretty good job on this old kit for the time and the major complaints seem to be focused on the weapons.

GHQ http://www.ghqmodels.com has a selection of 1:285 vehicles that could be used to fill the LCVPs and other craft...

Wish a plastic or resin 1/350 LSD-33 Alamo was available.

Mark,

Floating Drydock has plans for LSD-45 as built and since the 49s are modified 41s (same hulls) they should work just fine. As far as I know the only real changes were all internal and to the well deck and vehicle/cargo storage. Just get a bunch of photos from Navsource and Navy Newsstand and you should be good.

Scroll down the amphibs.

I have some line drawings I can send you, shoot me your e-mail.

Hope that helps,
-Mike

My boy is going to be transferred to the USS Carter Hall~LSD-50~
I know there isn't a kit out there for this, but is there anywhere I could get plans to scratch build her?
I'm in the middle of building the Bataan, so I have some time, but I figured I'd need it to get everything in order.

The error states:
ARC cannot find the search or search results that you requested. ARC only remembers a limited number of searches for each person using the system. You may have seen this error after using the Back button on your Web Browser to return to a page showing results from an old search. Alternatively, if you have more than one Web Browser window open, you may have returned to a page showing old search results.
So it seems that hotlinking the search results isn't allowed?

I just used it to go there.
But it seems to me that my Comcast connection slows down immensely at this time of day so I'll check it out again tonight.
It really is a neat series of clips.

The following link to NARA shows operations of a Casa Grande Class LSD during the Korean War. You'll see the USS Cabildo (LSD-16) supporting mine sweeping operations off of Wonson Harbor, where the sweeping is being performed by MinRon 3, using LCVP's. Rather than overall shots of the LSD, there are lots of shots of well deck operations.

http://arcweb.archives.gov/arc/action/S ... iewModel/1

Or: go here http://www.archives.gov/research/arc/
Under the search fill-in, click on Search Options
On new screen click the Digital Copies button
The screen changes. Before you search something, change the "Limit Search To" to 1000 or 2000
Search "Destroyers" (I know but I was searching destroyers and found an LSD in sometrhing saying Mine Clearing)
You'll get 6 pages of results. Go to last page. Click on the AV page above " MINESWEEP BOAT (MSB) OPERATION, OFF WONSAN, KOREA: 04/26/1952"
