First off, I have not given up on this build and secondly, I have added a new wrinkle. The new wrinkle is, a second Revell 1/426 USS Arizona model built as a 'Before the Attack' diorama complete with a scratch built USS Vestal!

I will be fixing some of the inaccuracies, starting with the decks. I smoothed the bottoms of the kit decks to make patterns out of 40 thousandths styrene.

Then, I mocked them up and will add 1/350 wood deck material.

I have work on the Arizona wreck and memorial and I added a new twist.

I purchased a second Revell kit of the Arizona and plan to build a 'Before the Attack' diorama

Here's an up date on the 'Arizona Today'

There are two more details that were out of scale that I need to address, the bollards and chocks.

Here is my prototype.

I seriously thought about casting duplicates, but I have no experience casting. So, assembly line it is.

First I cut a strip of .010 styrene.

Then I chopped it into the right size.

Then I cut .040 styrene rod.

And lastly, I used my smallest punch to make the tops out of .010 styrene.

I was really slow in responding David, I tried heat from a candle, however, it did not work out as planed. I am creating a bulkhead and will post some photos soon. The problem is that when I bend the hull sides around the forward deck, it wants to slide back towards the rear. Hopefully, the bulkhead idea will solve this issue.

Thanks Steve, it has been fun until now. The last post I glued the front of the starboard side together, it needs to be blown out. So, I will have cut and bend, fit and sand. It's all part of the game.

Thanks for the comment and for showing interest in my build, Strategos!

I have found some very thin plexiglas in of all places, cheap picture frames at Walmart. I will post a picture when I buy the size I need. I will display my model at the high water mark so that very little of the Arizona show above the water, and the mooring and memorial will sit right on the water.

I have yet to decide if I will stipple the water or leave it clear like the 'The Arizona Today' model.

A fellow modeler sent me some photo etch to use on the memorial and the dock, what ta guy!

I must confess I hadn't noticed this project.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Was curious how to plan on approaching the water? There are couple possible solutions.
