You can find online images of most ships here:

But wartime merchant ships were usually painted grey all over, including the funnel, especially if they were supplying warships.

Can't find anything at the usual suspects (miramar, world ship society). Are quite sure about the spelling of the name ? If you know an owner or shipyard that can help, or the name of any passengers or crew members.

Thank you Harry @ BFM and thank you Herr Glass, I took the opportunity to download those lovely paintings. Much more evocative than photographs. I can foresee in the near future a colourful array of merchant ships to tempt Captain von Mller.

Some Words to the following Pictures.
These Paintworks are called Kapitnsbilder (Captains Pictures). For a long Period of Time it was usual to paint Pictures of many Ships. These Pictures was sometimes appointed by the Owner or the Cpt, sometimes made as Present for someone. This Sort of Art was allocated all over the World. It disappeared with the Upcoming of Photography.
Significant for these Pictures is the Fact that they re very accurate in Relation to Rig, Position of Crew, Signaling and especially Color. (Note that Colors fade a little darker during the Times)
At some Pictures you are able to identify which Maneuver the Crew perform in the Moment. For these Facts they are a very good Source for Colors, Rig and Signaling.
Below some Pictures of Steamers and Hybrids of my Collection.

@Harry
PS: Thank you Harry for recommending the Page! :thumbs_up_1: :wave_1:

I have a very nice two volume set of books, British Tramp Steamers Vol.1&2 by P.N. Thomas. Volume 2 has some very good colour plates.
They are out of print, but are available at G.l. Green LTD. http://www.glgreen.co.uk You may also want to check Mr Glass's website http://www.marinewerft.de.

Hello everyone, I would like some help in regards to painting up some WWI era tramp steamers. This is for an SMS Emden scenario in 1/2400; A scale which I know is not the main subject here, but it seems to be a knowledgeable community and I really don't know where else to ask.
Specifically, I am aware that there are cargo ships and oilers that would be part of a shipping line and so would carry that lines colours on the smokestack, but where might I find a site (or book), with company colours of that era? Also what would be the hull/superstructure colours of said vessels, and would independant steamers be any different in appearance in regards to these colours? I posted this query over at SN in addition to here.
Your help is, as always, very much appreciated.
