Marijn, by the time of Mosonshow I plan to finish the Flower-class corvette and the whole diorama.
The main reason for you to come however could be to show us your fantastic work!

I tried to depict various activities like lifting items with the crane (from the barge that will be added to the diorama later), cleaning the main turrets and the starboard barrel of turret A, carrying various pieces of equipment, etc. The ship is now complete, except for the lower booms, boarding ladders and three boats to be added once the ship is affixed to the seascape.

My next build will be Black Cat’s HMS Begonia finished as HMS Gloxinia, the third member of my planned diorama besides HMS York, already finished.

I had planned from the outset to place numerous figures plus some barrels and crates on my model to convey the impression of activity of maintenance and provisioning. I prepared 153 3D figures from four manufacturers (Five Star, Triumph Model, Black Cat Models and ION Models) to provide enough variety of poses. They were airbrushed dark blue. The visible parts of shirts, collars, faces and hands, hair and caps were brush painted white, middle blue, flesh and dark blue respectively. PE crates, metal buckets and resin barrels (Five Star) were added to the deck amidships.

Magnificent work! She's a beauty.

Rigging was completed the usual way: signal halyards and wireless antennae are Infini 0,045 mm Lycra, almost everything else was made of stretched sprue. Lycra is transparent and colouring can be a problem. I can only perform it in situ, when the lines are already in place. The antennae were done using black marker - that is quite easy. I like to represent an amount of colour difference between the halyards and the rest of rigging. I avoid bright colours and usually opt for middle grey for a sun-faded hemp rope. Lycra is reluctant to take on paint, so some coats are required inevitably leading to thickening. I deemed the first shade applied too light and repainted the halyards which now look a tad thicker than the ones of the same material on HMS York completed before this one. Masts being tripods, rigging is much less elaborate in comparison.

I admit that I chose the easier solution by using the kit provided PE railing. This is somewhat thicker than WEM Ultrafine or Gold Medal Gold Plus railing but is pre-measured making assembly much easier.

The ship will be secured to mooring buoys at both ends and the anchors are a cockbill (if this is the right term).

Macro photography magnifies all the imperfections to an annoying level!

Before the weathering process the hull and the superstructure components were given a coat of gloss varnish (Alclad II Klear Kote). After applying Plimsoll mark decals (Five Star, slightly overscale but with the right roman numerals) washes of four different shades were applied using AK’s and Abteilung 502’s ship weathering sets. A pin wash followed using AK’s oil colour (AK 502 Shades for Grey Ships) and Abteilung 502’s black oil for the dark grey surfaces. Highlights were painted onto every protruding detail one shade lighter than the respective camouflage panel. Some rust of two shades (AK again) was added and as a final step, a light coat of clear matt (Revell 02) sealed the weathering process. I was concerned about too many layers of paint (primer, base colour, clear gloss, weathering, clear matt) obscuring the details, but overall, the paint job turned out quite well.
