My workbench is not very spectacular...building small ships in 1/700 doesn't need much space

Thanks Dan, its the Revell( ex Monogramm ) kit, built out of the box(ish)--but cut off moulded handrails and made proper etc etc etc

I think my hobby room is too neat, judging by the pictures I've seen!! Here's my space, which used to be my father in laws office (he had a small apartment in the house with us). A few months after he passed away (which was 2 years ago yesterday), I moved my hobby room downstairs into the office and my display cases into the family room (which used to be his apartment). My old hobby room is now my daughters bedroom. Anyway, here we go.

My workbench, which is an old 6 foot folding banquet table, made taller by PVC pipe extensions on the legs:

Another shot of the workbench. The small table propped up against the door in the right of the picture is what I paint on. Since I don't have room for a spray booth, I simply open the door and blow the paint fumes right outside while I'm airbrushing. Above the bench is a shelf that runs under the window - a little extra room to display models.

Some more bookcases with more kits on display and reference books. The door to the right leads to a storage room, where the majority of my stash is kept.

More of my stash...this is mostly ships, all my 700th, some 350th ships and some (gasp!) wingy things...


My book and display cases in the family room...I see that I'm not the only one who's gone shopping at IKEA!

Hi guys

I build mainly period sailing ships..



Here are a few photos of my workbench.



I build mainly wooden sailing ships so I have a lot of woodworking tools. Its all amazingly dust free despite the fact that I mill a lot of my own wood for the scratchbuilds. I have a lot of kits as well, simply because I cannot carve very well and if I want an ornate three decker, then I need a kit that has done a lot of the hard work for me.



In the photos you see a HMS Diana (Caldercraft kit in 1:64), HMS Vcitory (Heller plastic kit in 1:96), La Belle (a scratchbuilt fully framed model project in 1:48 in boxwood), and the marked out carving blocks for Le Salamandre.

I know why Jim Baumanns models always look that good!
He has to make every part 500 times over because he keeps losing them on his workbench/mountain and after 500 times he has the perfect parts!

G.A.`s shipyard has a notoriously slow build rate. MAINE has been awaiting attention for about six months. SHIMAKAZE needs final parts added as well as rigging and railing. Other kits are still in the boxes under the workbench (about eight kits await attention).

The thick plastic sheet material on the lower right is that which I used for MONADNOCK`S hull. The splotch of buff on the lower left gives you an indication why my old USN ships do not have the same tone of buff; I mix white, yellow and brown until it "looks right."

Me thinks MASSENA will be next.

The one thing I have noticed as we see others work room/spaces they seem to be getting larger and larger. I wish I had more space? but as a friend once said "but you would just fill the space with more and more boats and still have only a square meter of actual bench space" and he's right.

ok folks here is my space I also have a shed in the garden but that is only for more clement weather:)

My feircley guarded kitchen table - we're in a flat for the present so it's my only option till we move to our place in Portugal.
