Possibly German, early inter war period, it resemble's the early "Raubvogel" and "Raubtier" class, uneven funnels, open "B", "X" and "Y" gun mountings, very short forecastle (typical of early German Destroyers), camo patern is typical of German "splinter" scheme's, might be an updated WW2 version, but then again, I could be totally wrong. |

Destroyers referred by you have first funnel wider than aft one. Besides destroyer on the photo has topedo tubes placed on midship superstructure, not on the deck. In fact it is very confusing photo. She seems to be similar to Mahan class destroyers. Camouflage for me is USN Ms32/3D scheme - but according to shipcamoflage.com database no Mahan class ship was wearing this scheme. And also liferafts looks like USN type. Just my thoughts. |

Nope, my guess is that's a Brazilian Navy Marcilío Dias class destroyer or more known as M class (3 ships). Such ships were built based on the Mahan class destroyers of the USN. The design influence is pretty noticeable. |

I would agree with Felipe. IIRC, 3 such ships were built for the Brazilain Navy. |

It is a Brazillian destroyer, I could only find this other photo of the class. It would make a neat model to put with a Mahan class. http://uboat.net/allies/warships/class.html?ID=516 Matt |

I don't know much at all about US destroyers but it has struck me before that one of the Brazilian ships would make a nice model. Can anybody list the differences between the Brazilian ships and the Mahan class? Mike |

Can anybody list the differences between the Brazilian ships and the Mahan class? Mike This was a hard one, but I was able to find it: - These three ships were built in Arsenal de Marinha do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and added to the Brazilian Navy List on November 29, 1943. They received temporary armament in the yard, but went to the United States for rearmament and re-equipment of the following: - Two radars (not identified - need to check photos); - Fire control radar with telemetry (not identified - need to check photos); - Sonar; - Anti-submarine attack equipment; - 5 x 127 mm/50 calibers guns - 4 x double 40 mm Boffors Guns; - 8 x 20 mm Oerlikon guns; - 3 x 4 533 mm torpedo tube mounts (quadruple); - 4 K-guns; - 2 x 300 pounds mine depth roller racks. With the exception of the third torpedo tube mount (two in the center?) the armament is typical of a late war Mahan Hope this helps Rui PS: The info came from História Naval Brasileira, Quinto Volume, Tomo II, published by the Ministério da Marinha - Serviço de Documentação Geral da Marinha. Rio de Janeiro, 1985 It covers the development, organization and actions taken by the Brazilian Navy (in all theaters) from 1918 to 1984. Regarding the M-class destroyers, it only has this dark photo: ![]() |

Thanks for sharing Jimmy This could be a nice project for one of my remaining Mahan models ![]() Also, in the book "O Brasil na mira de Hitler" there are some close/on board shots that reveal some interesting details. ![]() Rui |
