A proud moment for me. Our Ship modelling society experiencing the
RN flag ship HMS Ark Royal at Liverpool and being teamed with the
Fleet Air Arm officers association. These guys may be elderly, but
very fit; they had to be climbing all those stairs. But amongst their
small number were two Swordfish pilots, an Avenger pilot and a
Corsair pilot all seeing action off carriers. A day to savour and remember.

I sailed on the Ark Royal from Portsmouth up to Liverpool. Great experience. Merlin embarking, 30mm gun shoots and various other evolutions.

First or second visit. Were you covering the visit for the press?

Greetings from the not so lovely town of Sheffield,
Sorry to say that but I envy you (just a tiny bit  ) Dave. Ever since I haw her and HMS Illustrious in Portsmouth in 2007, I wanted to get onboard. Wonderful pictures!
Is that the Port of Liverpool buidling at the background(the one with the watch on it)?
Alexander

P.s. Amazingly good weather. Last time I was in Liverpool, the wind was trying to knock me of my feet, and I had to use a weather cover for my camera while taking pictures.

Hi Alex The building in the background featurning Ark Royal is the famous Liver
Buildings and perched aloft are the two mythical Liver Birds. Like many coastal
cities the "sky line" evolves and new much higher buildings now dominate the
view but the older more imposing Liver Buildings, Cunard and the domed Port of
Liverpool building collectively referred to as the three graces remain as the most
imposing on the water front .
This picture shows the domed Port of Liverpool building in the back ground. The cranes are part of the construction for the new Museum of Liverpool .
