Gentlemen! I have been--along with many other UK modelers, a great admirer of the miniature model ships of Mr John Prothero-Thomas, a frequent exhibitor and (Gold medal winner!) at the UK Model Engineering exhibition. These have been seen and featured in the venerable Conways publication-' Modelshipwright' as well the well known MODEL BOATS magazines as well as MARINE MODELLING Magazine. Sadly there were few opportunities to see images of these superb models on-line.... No Longer is this the case!!! Mr Prothero-Thomas has permitted me to post a selection of images here at Modelwarships for your enjoyment. The ships show the extremely wide spectrum of ships that he has built ,vessels range from the Ancient civilizations to modern Naval ships! Currently circumstances have prevented him from doing any major photo sessions, however he hopes top re-dress this later in the year--and we should be able to look forward to seeing some REAL visual treats and perhaps learn some of the 'secrets' of his building methodology... Most of the models are built in the traditional old scale of 1/384. These models are ENTIRELY scratchbuilt, eschewing such modern conveniences as PE and ready made figures...!!! Enough from me--let the quality of the models speak for themselves! ![]() JIM B ![]() Attachment: Attachment: Attachment: Attachment: Attachment: Attachment:

That's wonderful work, would love to see more photos of Minotaur and Queen Elizabeth especially. With a name like that he must be a Welshman? Mike |

Astonishment is the first word I'd use, love the rigging on the men-of-war ships, and so much like Jim B, not so much a model builder, more like artist to be this good. |

Absolutely incredible! Certainly a good variety of subject matter - it looks like he can model any era, size and type of ship to the same impeccable standard. Beautifully realistic water, too! I especially like the early iron warships, particularly the Minotaur and Victoria. |
