IPMS Phoenix hosted it's annual model show and contest today. Naturally it usually doesn't attract many ship models but this year had a pretty good turnout. The Old Nag was a favorite of mine, showing what can be done with a fair minimum of photoetch extras. I believe the builder stated on his entry sheet that the signal flags spelled out "My Nagato" but I couldn't say if that is true or not!. Here they be:

Just an overdue postscript, the Nagato won both Best Ship and Best of Show. The latter is quite an accomplishment here in the desert where aircraft and armor models usually reign supreme!

Hi Guys,
Chris,
I just now read this thread. The three of we SD IPMS'ers flew to Falcon Field, (FFZ), and took a little more than 2.5 hours flight time from San Diego.
When leaving FFZ, the plane barley made it off the ground with Jerry's Best Of Show plaque on board! Very Nice awards' Chris!
Jerry entered Nagato in the Nats last August, and came home empty handed. I was a ships judge in the 1/401 and smaller category, but they split the ships into USN WWII and, "other", so I did not judge his category.
I got an award myself at ModelZona. 2nd place in the subs category, but my sub is not in any of the pics. I'll get over it!
Thanks for bringing back fond memories of a fun day in Mesa Arizona.
See you later this year!
Tony
