Hi Russian and all modelers,

The Sevastopol Detail up set is just to be released.

Now we would pass manual files to the printer.
And final PE design to the PE producer.

I think we can ship from 7th November to our dealers and customers.
And we may bring some sets at SMW 2012 Telford.

Thank you
Kim

I still waited for such a set before buying Sevastopol and thought it will cost some more time until available ... so I ordered IJN Mikasa from Hasegawa + PE Set to build it first first. And so you come now much too early with this set for me ... you are a bad guy Kim!

Ok, joke away, it looks really impressing and very fine and I will for sure buy it ... later after Mikasa is ready. But one question: On photo is a torpedo net visible, but not named as content on first picture, will this be included too?

Cheers,
Christian :wave_1:

The torpedo net is PE, so is included as part of the Photo-etching sheets. (you can see it in the silver PE fret)

Oops! I thought these were the railings in the silver sheet there. My mistake, thank you Timmy. :wave_1:

Hello,

so ... I bought today Sevastopol kit from Zvezda, but unfortunatelly I see no shop in Germany and GB where I can order this set. The normal shops I looked, no one listed Pontos ... even not the normal "everything have or can order shop" - NNT Models. Strange .... very strange!
:Mad_5:

Anyone of you Germans or English guys knows some shop, any direct order I won't make normally ... :wave_1:

Problem solved ... with some Vitamin "C" like Connections!

A friend of me is in Telford and brings with him 1 set for me, cost about 90.00 USD, great!

But laser cut deck is unnecessary for me, plastic deck of kit is so great made with the structure, will be a dream to make with paint job... :wave_1:

Cheers,
Christian

Sorry not to reply for some days.
Just back from Telford tour.
This set have been shipped from our dealers already.
And some lucky guys had got at Telford.
I am sure all they are happy when open the box at their work bench.

The final retail price set to 90.00USD.
After seeing all the contents included and compare with our other detailup sets as Warspite or Dreadnought, you will find this price is quite lower price than other sets.

Hope you can get this set before Christmas season.

Thank you
Kim

If you look in the aftermarket for comparable sets from several manufactures (regardless of which ship), the price of this set is ok. This set is an all inclusive set and as you know, the single items are in aftermarket for other ships as single sets available, i.g. brass masts, brass barrels, lasercut wooden deck etc. Even the price of the set compared with the sum of the individual sets is still OK.
I guess the price of 90.00 USD is being criticized in general for other reasons by some people and these are mostly:

1)
If such a set cost more than the kit itself, then for some people the personal limit is exceeded. My opinion is that beside quality, the content must also counted here ... but then we drop directly to point 2 of the criticism.
2)
Is the whole content even necessary?
The question can only be answered in person for oneself and not in general. For some modellers it is in total or in most parts necessary and for others a PE set for railing will be enough and they are satisfied ... because letting the rest of kit as it is given or make all other changes offered by the Pontos set scratch by their own (and here we have indeed people who make much scratch on their modells with great results!). If any sets of aftermarket are essentrial or not can never be answered in general, too much personal opinions ...
3)
Out of point 2 we have next issue with question "if such an all inclusive set is ok or if single sets are better".
Here we have again much personal opinion in any answer given. Some people like such all inclusive sets, means 1 complete set for their ship and no need to buy further things or to make anything / much things scratch by their own. Other people need only parts of such a set, no matter if seeing no need to replace for example the masts of kit at all or if making the masts scratch by their own.

My personal opinion and view is that such a complete set is good and price is ok. Only at point 3 I must say that the lasercut deck is for me without any need, becasue will never be used and goes straight into spare box for some exchange with colleagues or so.
But this is my personal opinion and view on this item and not in general valid or so, because I think that if plastic deck is good enough and correct made, there is in general no need for me to replace / overlay with such a lasercut thing and can be nice painted ... and deck of Sevastopol is awsome good made as plastic part in my opinion.
About price, it is for sure not cheap and higher as kit itself. On the other hand I will build several month or more on that ship until completion / launch from my workbench. So total price for that longer time of personal fun as hobby is for me ok.

Cheers,
Christian

I think Christian makes good points especially about the wooden deck. I would prefer not to have these included in the set. However, I guess that Pontos want to include all the parts in the set rather than selling them separately for business reasons (they aren't a large company with lots of staff I imagine). So I am fine with that. As to the price, when you consider the amount of stuff and the quality of it, I think the sets are good value; just look at the prices of Hasgawa p/e sets for their 1/350 Akagi!

To be honest I am grateful to Pontos (and other aftermarket companies) for providing sets that allow me to build much better models than I am capable of on my own!

Thank you for your opinions for our detail up sets.
I know almost after market companies supply each category as PE, Wooden deck, Barrels, Resin or Etc.
One of our example is wooden deck series...http://pontosmodel.com/350wd.html

Almost these wooden decks are for the basic kit having without other PE or resin accessories though we've researched a little to realize the real plank shapes.

But the functions of wooden decks in our detail up sets are some differrent from these individual wooden deck products sold in separately.
Not just only wooden deck, but all PE and turned brass parts, resin or other materials in our detail up sets have been designed and fit each other. So separate selling is meaningless though there are some modelers who wish to get these separately. So you an find during your applying our set without wooden deck (or other material) as some parts of other matrials cannot be applied properly.

Of course we can release these separtely with reducing some parts.
But as AJB mentioned with limit staffs of Pontosmodel, we decided it is better to modelers to release one more detail up set than to take much time to plan, design, produce and pack these parts separately.
The most important reason of our detail up set releasing way is the most modeler customers and dealers wish to get all at once not separately.

As all you know for last 14months we have released 12 detail up sets(including all shister ships), and now 8 ships are laid in our working bench waiting to be released by January. And more sets are scheduled by 2014.

Don't give up our separate part stuffs, we will soon show you many individual part series as our Wooden dek series.
However now I know you can't help getting these detail up set before waiting to get these separately.

Thank you
Kim

Hello Kim,

thank you for explaining.
I like the set here very much, other too and so I bought it via friend from L'Arsenal who was in Telford (I think you know him, it's Michael) and will get soon the set. :wave_1:

If lasercut wooden deck or not, as told it is a personal opinion to use it or not with a bunch of individual reasons at least. Single sets are of course more comfortable for some, simply because they will buy only what they need. But as I wrote, I will put away in spare part box for some exchange maybe or I can make sometime a friend happy with it or whatever ... as others will use it.

Yep as I mentioned above, though now we are focusing on detail up set from time to time we will also release partial part series.

And thank you for your buying from our dealer Mima.
