I've never mounted a ship with finials and need to get a link where to buy some and some information as to how to mount these correctly to my Bismarck now that I've finally started her. My plan is for this to be my best work, which leaves a lot to be desired, but I am taking my time and really putting a lot into this build. Any help would be so helpful. I tried Home Depot and Lowes with no luck at all. You'd think I, Grandpa's Cabinets, would have this answer, but I don't. Thank you all in advance. Ron Baluch, Grandpa's Cabinets
PS: I'm even gonna make a display case for this one for myself!!!

What you're looking for is a pair of "Lamp Shade Risers", not a finial. On a lamp, you would have the harp, onto which you screw a riser, then the lamp shade and then the finial. Otherwise the lamp shade would sit on the harp, which may be too low.
I would suggest a store that specializes in lamps and lighting fixtures. Don't forget to pick up 4 bolts or two blts and two nuts while you're there. Lighting fixtures and lamps use a different thread bolt than you can find at HD and Lowes. You need two to secure the risers to your base and two more to secure the hull to the risers. Better get some washers to protect the inside of the hull and protect the plastic from the head of the bolt or the nut.

Hi Grandpa,

Try going to Pacificfront.com's website. Scroll down to the bottom of the home page and I think you will find what you are looking for from Pontos Models. Part number PON35008P1. They are expensive but I think they will do your Bismarck proud.

Best regards,

Jack

How about cabinet knobs? There is a huge variety to chose from...

For example, take this knob (http://www.myknobs.com/bal4491030bin.html) turn it upside down, drill a hole through it and you can secure it to the base and the ship by using a nut and a screw.

Here are some pics of how mine look:

The big home supply stores disappointed me as well. Links provided here are welcome, but I found some nice choices locally at specialty lighting stores, so look under "lighting" in the phone book as well.
