I think you should stick to the genuine proposals for the Strike Cruiser and leave it to the modeller if they wish to modernise the concept for a later fit.

That way the kit can be built out of the box and displayed as a genuine Strike Cruiser design that was cancelled as opposed to a speculative updated design credited to Joe Blog's impression.

I am not against What-if Warships, as I am a member of both the IPMS UK's What-If and Project Cancelled Special Interest Groups and have built and displayed Projects and What-ifs and know from experience that you can get into an interesting debate discussing a genuine project, where as a mention of What-if some people lose interest and disregard it as pure fantasy, or others would disagree with the interpretation of the fictional modernisation. It's much more fun to pull out a genuine reference and prove the design is real and if you want to modernise the concept you can do it yourself and justify the reasons for your choices.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your great points! It seems that 4 and 5 get half and half now. 4 is a much realistic design. We even have one huge model in the museum now. It is not strange that many people like it. No. 5 is a proposal by a modeler. It looks nice. Half of the people vote for it, not only because it is beautiful, but it also represents the power of US Navy in 21 century (The Burke is too old). I agree modeler should modernize their own What-if, but scratch building such a large hull in great shape is not easy. That is why we would like to pick up CSGN project.

As a manufacturer, we do not have any bias between 4 and 5. We would like to and feel honored to produce any kits you like!

Best
James

Hi James

The CGN-42 Strike Cruiser deserves to be kitted and should really be done as designed, that way it goes well with the likes of the Virginia class, the Spruance's the Perry's and Knox's along with the Carriers.

If you design the kit to allow for potential updates to be applied then that should cater for those wishing to apply VLS batteries, CIWS etc along with revised Radar and ECM hardware. That's the other problem with Whiffing it, at what point do you set for the update - late 80's mid 90's. the 00's or now. Might be nice to include the 8 inch gun as an optional extra.

Cheers

Geoff

I think number four would be best choice as it was a real design. Number five looks nice but is not based on anything that might have been built.

Presuming NONE of the proposed designs ever became keels (or pre-fab sections, nowadays), and are therefore "what-ifs", does it really matter to reflect "proposals"?

My vote is #5, just for its sheer beauty; it's the very antithesis of origami (Zumwalt). Buy it for looks, buy it for life!
