Why would we want to go to England if there would not be any England to see?

We in the states are facing the same problems. Large developement corporations are taking over vast amounts of historic and prestine land, sometimes using government eniment domain to steal from the owners, to make concrete condos and chain stores that look the same no matter if they are located in New Bedford Conn. or Ft. Lauderdale Fl. Then they close them off to the general public, or just clost them altogother when the market goes south.

Its too bad that the historic landscape of London is going to be ancient history in a few years. I hope they will save the ships and not sell them off to India for pennies on the dollar to use as a tax write-off.

Scott

Wirral resident
I am ashamed of the attitude of the council towards this matter. I have had experience with them over Leisure facilities and unfortunatley this sounds like the same sort of problem. The new flats will bring an income into the councils coffers in the form of Council Tax, so they have no problem in granting planning permision. The residents of the new flats will have a less than fantastic view over the industrial units on the other side of the road and the heavy goods traffic to 12 Quays will certainly shake a few windows.............
Unfortunatly we live in an era were the past is not respected after all WE could not find £ 60,000 to save HMS Stalker and you couldnt even buy a run down terrace house in the Wirral for that amount.........
If any one wishes to contact the local council officials, contact me off line I can give them an e-mail mailing list for all of the current councillors.
Best wishes to all the staff at the ships, I hope that things do get sorted for the good because you have all done a fantatsic job over the years.

Victoious -

Plymouth Council kicked HMS Plymouth out before she came to Birkenhead - At least Birkenhead gave her a temporary home until now.

Was she not at Plymouth, then Tyneside, then Birkenhead?

Or was that HMS Cavelier?

Hi all, I have emailed the BBC tonight and told them what I have been told regarding the suspicious circumstances of this, so lets hope that somebody gets of their shiny ass and does something at the council for the good of the ships.

In the mean time there has been no mention of this on tv, but, I am watching every news broadcast tonight and tomorrow. I know the local media was informed yesterday and it should be in the local Liverpool echo and what ever they have in the Wirral.

This whole thing just stinks.
Best regards, Paul...

Keep us posted. In the meantime I would urge that those of us who are concerned enough about this should write to our respective MPs - its about time they gave something back.

It would also be useful if someone involved with the Trust asks for their views on this - there may well be some kind of deal in the offing already.

Just emailed Colin on this one. No good writing to my MP, he's bloody useless. He did nothing to help get us rehoused from a high rise flat into a house with a garden, so my wife could put in for a Guide Dog.
I wrote to David Blunkett, who passed my letter on to the Disablement Minister and we were in our new home a fortnight later. My wife has had her dog now for seven years. My local MP got his a--se kicked. at the time, for not acting upon the problem

ok guys, lets not get distracted from the thread here, everyone has their views about you know who.
The main thing is the fate of the ships and it would help if this thread for the time being could be kept at the top of the board for a few weeks instead, no offence meant here, of people posting about modifying plastic kits or asking about books etc, you are entitled to do that, all I ask is support on this.

Nobody would have this information if the ships were not there in the first place if you know what I mean?

The US has many of these type of attractions, we have three plus some square rigged stuff here and there including Victory and Warror down in Portsmouth.

I ask you all, what would people say if this situation happened to them, or even HMS Belfast in London?????

Please help us out here and make this topic sticky at least.
Best regards, Paul...

I noticed the building in question which the property developers want to make into top class penthouse suites, on the third photo with the Plymouth alongside.

These properties when finished, will attract the yuppy's and the Fortisque-Hamilton-Predergast type of society, and they DONT want to see a RUSTING GERMAN U-BOAT from there drawing room window.

If the now preserved Royal Yacht Brittania was moored there, it would probably be a different kettle of fish.

Oh come on over darling, we have a beautiful view of Elizabeth's Yacht.
