After a good six years of works the museum was re-opened on 17.11.23 at 11 am to the public by its director M. Campredon. This weekend the entrance is free. In spite of the rainy weather there formed long queues at the entrance.

Below a few photographs are intended to give an impression of the morning of the re-opening.

Over the course of the next couple of days a series of uncommented images will give a visual impression of all parts of the museum.

Do you know if they will be re-instating the online access to their holdings of French warship plans that used to be available before it got hacked?

This site does not belong to the Museum, but to the Service Historique de la Defense (SHD) - two different institutions, but both belong to the Defence Ministry actually. I have no news about this site.

Virtual Tour Around the Museum – Groundfloor

The following images are intended to be a rough-and-ready virtual tour around the museum in order to show what is on display. No serious attempt was made to properly photograph the models, it was difficult enough to avoid people in the pictures (according to the current requirement to ask them for consent …) – there were just too many. Also, no attempt was made to correct for reflection from the glass of the vitrines etc.

Further, no attempt was made to catalogue or identify the models that are currently on display. I simply had no time, as I was supposed to man the information desk of the AAMM (www.aamm.fr). You have to try to do this yourself.

Thanks for the pics! I need to get to Paris. I was disappointed when it was closed during my visit 4 years ago.

Thanks for the photos. I've been wanting to see this museum for years.

Wow!

What about the ironclads? Are they still there?

Unfortunately, only the GLOIRE 'survived' ... the middle of the 19th century, the transition from sail to steam and the development from iron-clads to steel-warships is not well represented.
