will ammonia-based wondow cleaner attack acrylic paint? need help from someone who has removed Future with window cleaner.

i applied a coat of Future to a large model ship using an airbrush. after the future dried i saw all kinds of dust trapped in the Future ruining the finish. i want to remove the Future and know that ammonia-based window cleaner will remove Future easily. will i need to repaint the ship?

would Simple Green be better than window cleaner? i have heard that Simple Green will remove acrylic paint.

What type of paint is it? If it is acrylic, then it might remove it. Do yourself a test piece and give it a test run and see what happens.

Soaking acrylic paint in Simple Green will definitely remove it.

The only thing I know of that SAFELY REMOVES paint or concoctions like future from models is "Easy OFF Oven Cleaner."

Try it, you'll like it!

I've tried the Easy Off and I like it for paint removal, but I can't deal with the fumes. The Simple Green works just as well, you have to let it soak a little longer, though, and the fumes are no where near what oven cleaner get you. The good point of the Easy Off is that if you can deal with the fumes, it sprays into a foaming substance that really clings to the model.

Keep in mind: Easy-Off, while nice for cleaning my wife's oven, is, first and foremost, sodium hydroxide.....Lye. It is dangerous, can blind you and dangerously irritate lung tissue. If you use it use adequate eye protection and use adequate ventilation.

For the complete infor about Future, go to http://www.swannysmodels.com.

I screwed up my Future application on a 1/72 aircraft.

For cleaning my airbrush, I make my own witches brew of 2 parts Windex (ammonia based), 1 part 99% isopropyl alcohol and 1 part household ammonia.

Based on what I read on Swanny's site, I though that I would give my brew a try. I moistened a cloth with it and wiped the model down. Worked great! Took off all the Future and left the enamel paint surface untouched.

Now I am going to re-spray the Future.
