Hi there!

I thought the Trumpy Nimitz(both 1/350 and 1/700) to be incorrect as to the shape of the flightdeck by the angled section of the deck where the forward and middle section pieces meet on the starboard side(on the 1/350)...I checked 3 different sources and they all confirmed that the pieces mentioned above have been molded incorrectly. For those of you who wish to go thru the trouble to make it right: at least your starting point (the starboard edge of the deck on the foward section is the right length:))is in the right place, but from here to the end of the piece you have 117 millimeters....this should ONLY be 100 milimeters, and on your middle deck section the lenght of the deck edge (from the #1 elevator forward should be 88 mm instead of the kits 68mm...(these are measurements for the DECK EDGE not the outer catwalk bulwark)....gotta be a lot of work for a little area, but anyone who takes on this ship is a mazochist anyway:)

Laci

Can anyone help me here, I'm looking for info on the CVN-71 Roosevelt during the 1991 Gulf war. I know that the weapon sponsors are present but i am not sure as to the various domes and radar sponsors. Did they all arrive after 91 ?

Most of the domes and and electronics were added after the mid-90s. If you want to ask something more specific you may contact me through PM

Just saw this pic over at the Navy News Stand and thought it was really cool looking. Shows some nice closeup details of the starboard side of the ship and island.

Is there a diagram of the location of the various hose reels (fire, fuel, etc.) around the flight deck? I want to paint the hose reels in their proper colors at their proper locations

Yep! When I was aboard Truman it was not on deck and while we were exploring the interior (we were on a Friends and Family Cruise) I happened by a random space and there it was in the middle of the room. I didn't even realize it was missing until I saw it below and then looked for it topside. Flight Deck had no trace of it.

I doubt it, but if you purchase the nimitz CD from Still Motions, there is a photo walk around the whole upper deck and you can easily mark them off on a drawing and make it available to the rest of us. :cool_2:

Hey guys!

Anyone looking to build a 1/700 Nimitz? Sprue Brothers.com has the 1975 Nimitz and the 2006 TR on sale for $44.95!!!!! Says they have 17 Nimitz and 12 TR kits. GREAT deal considering they're usually $70-80. Thought I'd give you guys the heads up.

The point of this/these posts is to combine our knowledge and photo resources to help us build better and more accurate models of the Nimitz class carriers in any scale. I'm going to list all the overhaul/refits and then list the modifications that are noticeable from the EXTERIOR ONLY. Any updates or corrections are much appreciated and will be updated here on this first post. Each Nimitz class will have it's own post. This is meant as a helpful guide, not an absolute record from official US Navy records.

Sixteenth overhaul/refit (December 16, 2010 to December 2011)
1) Two sponsons added - location of these sponsons on the ship is yet unknown.

Need to confirm:
1) when was the AN/SPQ-9B installed?
2) When were the two Mk 29 guidance radars added to the aft port sponson's (some time in the early 80s)

Modelling notes:
1) For all Nimitz class carriers up to and including CVN-77. Catapult number four cannot launch fully loaded aircraft due to wing clearance issues for the catwalks. Issue will be fixed with CVN-78.
