Since we're on a Ronald Reagan tangent, I have the Italeri Roosevelt which I plan to do as Reagan. Easy to convert or am I just going to build another Nimitz-class carrier and mark it 76? Comments? Input?

At a minimum, the entire island is different and extends further back where there is no separate rear mast, and both forward sponsons are a different shape, etc. See photos on navy.mil, etc.

Actually the Island is the same size as the privious Nimitz class, the aft mast was incorperated and redesigned into the structure. If you make carefull measurements you will see this.

something diffrent but it belongs to this topic, I suppose.

Something which struck me, are the new releases of Trumpeter.

The F14B/D has some improvements and some bad faults. Like the canopies windshield, its not made from clear plastic??. The engines look oke, especially that particular detail alongside the enginering.
The TV nosepod and the droptanks.

The C2 seems to have better props, which I will be using for the E2.

The EA6B seems to have interior seats now, and God bless Trumpy, for the jammerpods /fueltanks, will there be a weaponset released in the future???

The clear canopy is there; you can see it in the clear portion of the sprue.

I think they look great. Compare them to any other manufacturer. 'Nuff said.

Timmy,

not true the forward part of the canopy is now modled in grey plastic on the upper half of the F14, which given the old F14 had the complete canopy in clear seems an odd choice.

Duncan how are you approaching this ?
I am going to use the new F14s and do the forward wind shield in silver with a black surround I think....

The rest of the F14 pack is much better however and fit seems better.

well Mark (and Timmy ofcourse if he is listening...)

I need the F14B/D tailrings, and this Cat does not come with a Beavertail and goes with struts.
I 'll probably cut the F14s B/D upper fuselage right there in the center.
I 'll do the same with the D version (I 've got these @home).
I am gonna combine B/D & D parts to come up with a descent looking Tomcat.

I don't get it why Trumpeter uses a clear canopy and a 'grey plastic' windshield..I bet something went very wrong and they might be feeling urged now to do a F14A+??
haha...

In your case I would paint the clear canopy from the inside/or out, same color you use for the windshield..I might even cut it off and would go for some F14D clear parts.
You buy some extra F14D boxes and improvide like that?

I still think Tamiya's F14 is the best, the sleek lines of the canopy design is perfect. Its still has a gun and ventral fins.

Trumpies planes aren't bad but if its true what you say Mark, the F14B/D has a much better fit, wel my 2 extra cents worth than.
Since I am still single and good looking, no wife bitchin me about spending too much money.

cheers Mate :lol_spit_1:

Duncan,

I found 3 full F14 canopies left over from my Enterprise, so one F14 has had its forward canopy frame removed and the full clear canopy substituted, looks 100 percent better, will post pictures if I ever get the :censored_2: :censored_2: computer working proprerly

For the pics that were listed for the war ship models underway above, neither of the two builders live in the country at all we both live in city area limits. Both models are 12 feet long with a flight deck width of 32 inches with out the catwalks on them, they will be about 33-34 inches in beam with the catwalks and nets on the port side. Both models are Radio controlled and will have many operating items on each model. As for the gentleman building the model of the Nimitz he will be out of commission until he returns from China in5 years, as for me I have already done sea trials on the Truman already and she did great. The model of theTruman will weigh in at 245 pounds when ballasted down to the water line.
