Great pics :thumbs_up_1:

If someone could supply me with plans, or a source for them, I'd have a go at a 1:192 scale Sverdlov. Plenty of pics

The 100mm/60 twin as fitted to the Sverdlov and the preceding Chapaev's looked remarkably like the German 10.5cm both gun mounts being triaxial.

Hello Dave,
I'm not going to build a Sverdlov myself, just stumbled upon these pictures and thought some people might be interested.

The structure on those barrels is a cooling system that also keeps the barrels from vibrating too much after a shot, so that they can fire at a higher rate. (sometimes this is used on sniper riffles too).

Pff, ARH, I'm not interested in US DDs, bunch of rubbish cans, I will have a look for the starters to see how you build the hull though.

Regards
Roel

Yes! :thumbs_up_1:

Do you perhaps more photos of Dzerzhinsky after her conversion? I have the Kombrig kit of her with the SA-N-2 launcher.

Thanks for the plans, Roel! It is missing piece for my Combrig Zhdanov project! Do you have higher resolution pictures?

Where'd you get those schematics? off the Internet? Or are they your own scans?

From the Airbase (as usual), it's a real goldmine there. They have an entire thread full of plans (for modelbuilders) along with a special forum for model warships (and there are some great builders there too!).

Be aware it is in Russian and you have to register first before you can see any pictures. But it certainly is worth the effort!

Hi,
I spent a day in the Central Naval Museum in St. Petersburg in early July. I took several photos of the 1/100 scale model of the Sverdlov that was on display. They can be seen at:
http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/Seaway ... rowse/4de4
In order to see the photos you will need to join the group but it is free. The model is quite good and well detailed. However the platform around the top of the fighting top is rounded rather than rectangular. The model may have been built before the Sverdlov was finished and may represent an early version.
Sverdlov Class Cruisers have been a favorite of mine for a long time and I really appreciate all of the great photos of the ships that have been posted. Are any left in existance or have all been scrapped? Anyone got any interesting facts, stories on the individual ships?

Does anyone have the Combrig Sverdlov or sisters, if so what is the kit like and what time period does it show the ship?

Mike

Query please; main tubes on the Sverdlov class:

Is the charge bagged or cased? (weight of powder and type would be interesting, as well)

What is projectile weight?

Thank you!

http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNRussi ... _m1938.htm

AP (B-35) - 121 lbs. (55 kg)
Semi-AP mod 1915/28 (PB-35) - 121 lbs. (55 kg)
Shrapnel / HE mod 1915/28 (OF-35) - 121 lbs. (55 kg)
Distance Grenade - 119.56 lbs. (54.23 kg)
Star Shell - 106.92 lbs. (48.5 kg)

It was a QF gun, which means charge was in metal cases. Plus, to reach the 6-7 rounds a minute these guns had, they almost had to have had a cased charge.

Sean, thank you for the info and link!

Went back and visited the main tubes for Kirov, the 180mm. They stated the bag charges were in 2 halves. Presumably that means one behind the other, rather than two halves of a cylinder split down the middle?
