Hello Guys,
this one doesn't really belong to the normal Russian Navy section as it's from a "past" age.

I have PLENTY of LARGE b/w pictures of this class, so if there is any interest I'll take the effort to upload all of them.
I think they are handsome ships and I like the turrets that can be turned over their longitudinal axis.

Let me know if there is any interest in those pictures!

Regards
Roel

Most interesting ships indeed the Sverdlovs along with all their different version. Perhaps to add some Chapaev also, hmm???

I'd like to see them! Also, I'm always open to making a gallery entry on the main site.

OK, I'll start from Zhdanov. It is one of my next projects after banana problem was resolved.

It looks strikingly like a smaller version of an Iowa class! Nice ship!

The funnels, tall tower structure, and slim hull were what did it for me.

Can you date any of these shots? Those cruisers stayed in service a looong time, AFAIK.

Other than US Fram destroyers and maybe some of the Cleveland conversions I can't think of a 60's-90's warship class with so many configurations to choose from.
One can find just about every seagoing and some land based weapon or electronics system on them at one time or other.
Besides being a great looking ship to start with.

Now don't you guys think Andrey and I have been spoiling you with too many pictures (for my collection it's the last batch, unless you want to end up with really really really detailed pictures in which it's even hard to make out where they were taken onboard)???
I think you all should start building at least one of these versions!!! :surfer: She is cute. Pictures are reduced in size though.

I guess we're late to convince ARH that this should be his new scratch build though... I hope we're not too late!!!! That would make a fine ship.

NucSub, I think that's because they were relatively new hulls and very spacious for new equipment. They were obsessed with adding CIWS capability I guess (judging from the number of AK-306!) They always seem to have at least one of the secondary turrets tilted to the side, any idea why?

All credits for the pictures go to the members of the http://www.airbase.ru forum, I took them from both a modelbuilding and a general topic there.

Regards (and I hope you enjoy the pics)
Roel

Well done lads!! Thanks for the photos. One small question Roel...two of those photos show some sort of structure around the 6' barrels...any idea of what it is??? They look similar to rails but I doubt it is such.
Oh well, been a few years that I dedicated myself to soviet ships...guess it's time to organise me files here and start a Slava or Kirov one of these days!!

Neptune. I believe the secondaries were stabilized mounts. I've seen pictures of someone's mounts being tilted for maintenance. So maybe a reason or perhaps broken.
As to the structures around the guns they almost look like some form of scaffolding.

I wish I had some of those pictures when I built Sverdlov some 13 years ago now at 1:96. For Sverdlov fans the new book has a few unpublished shots of Sverdlov back in 1957 and a a number of pictures of the model. Neptune What scale would you build Sverdlov.
