I am planning to build the Niko kit of Protet in the original appearance. I have heard that the kit has "many inaccuracies", but no specifics. Can anyone comment on any significant issues with the kit?

No clue about the kit but you might want to look around on here for a set of plans for her or her sisters.

Lead ship circa 1958: http://www.servicehistorique.sga.defense.gouv.fr/02fonds-collections/banquedocuments/planbato/planbato/fichebato/fichbato.php?id=120
Protet circa 1962 http://www.servicehistorique.sga.defense.gouv.fr/02fonds-collections/banquedocuments/planbato/planbato/fichebato/fichbato.php?id=375

Those should help.
