I'm bit surprised. Black on the deck in 33/13D pattern? It shall be Ocean Gray (5-O) and Deck Blue (20-B). I have took a look on the pattern you used and I can see the source of this mistake. Color legend shows Deck Blue and Dull Black with the same very dark shade.

hey this is mega,
so does that mean all the camo on deck "structures" needs to be deck blue too? black is only used for the hull?

i dont know what difference it will make, but added a window inside using a piece of plastic. still contemplating adding a white LED light inside the bridge.

Deck Blue was applied only at horizontal surfaces (and some slopes if visible from the top). Black was used at the hull and superstructures' vertical surfaces. In fact Deck Blue is pretty dark, so it will not be a striking difference. Only few ships had used Black on the decks - USS North Carolina and USS Indiana plus some small combatants.

You're welcome ;-)

You can check this webpage: http://www.cv6.org/ship/camo-radar.htm. There is comparison of different colors used by USN and it gives an idea how dark Deck Blue was.

Question for all of you. I have seen many photos of this, on top of the pilot house, centerline forward there is an approx. 3 ft by 3 ft by 3 ft high "table like" structure. It has a few pieces of equipment on the sides below it and it looks like it has a canvas cover or "pad" on top. Does anyone know what this was used for, I seen pictures of this on mostly square bridge 1944 and beyond ships. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Mike

another question about the camo. for the structures that sit on the deck, does the deck blue apply for the top of these structures? or do i just stick with the black i have on the sides?

no, because the model is not in camo. but the model itself is downright beautiful.

from what i see here, the pattern on the roof of the 5" guns is using the deck blue and not the black from the sides.

then again, maybe not:

Officially, where you put the paint is split into "horizontal" and "vertical" surfaces, not "decks" or "superstructure" or "hull". In other words, the tops of the fittings would be the same colour as the surrounding deck, and the sides of the fittings would fit in with the colour of the surrounding vertical camo colour.

When you are looking at dockyard photos, keep in mind that the ship is being worked on while the photo is being taken. So while you don't see any deck blue on the turrets in the second photo, that could mean that they just haven't been applied yet.

Btw USS Moffet shown above is in camoflage - Ms22. Note Deck Blue tops of the boxes after the forward funnel. All horizontal surfaces od the equipment were painted as decks below ie. Deck Blue or Ocean Gray.

railings: if a camo pattern(looking at ship from the side) crosses over a railing, should the railing also be painted the dark color? or should all railings on the ship be regular grey color?

also, do you guys know what color depth charges are supposed to be? the racks are just grey, but not sure about the depth charges themselves.

and one more q: the netting that goes behind the bow railings, is that netting black? or grey like the railing? of the 5 photos i have of my ship, i dont even see the netting on it. i guess some had that netting and some didnt. i will omit it.

bow section completed(Tamiya). copied from previous email.
-additional cammo adjustments made to port side hull and bridge that i missed before.
-also, those werent "ac units" on the back of the bridge, and i put them on the wrong place initially. they have been moved up to the walkway level of bridge. via forum i found out that they are "antenna insulators" whatever that means. regardless, they are in the right place now with adjusted camo.
-the "blade-like structures" along the sides replaced with PE versions with open doors.
-PE 20mm gun shields added.
-additional PE details added(doors, railings, ladders and under the 20mm guns a grated metal plate).
-top canvas-covered railing, scratch made with paper over the PE rails(easy).
-windows drilled(by forumite recco)via exacto knife(tricky, but couldnt find .5mm drill bit anywhere)
-antislip walkways added.
broke both bow and stern "flag poles" when trying to cut them from mold. used some makeshift piece. imo, doesnt look right, too thick. should i remove it? hmmm what to use...
and those bow railings were a ***** to glue on. back is killing me. 6 hours to complete this section.
PE=Eduard, 5" Guns=L'Arsenal, Antislip=L'Arsenal, Camo=M32 13D. sorry for huge post, just wanted to make post as useful as possible.

The small singles are 20mm, yes.

Railings are painted the same as the surrounding camo colour.

For flag poles, you can use stretched sprue or electrical wire.
