Hey

Is there any good rigging plan for the Buckley class?
My England in MS 21 is painted and weathered and only waiting for the L'Arsenal 20mm AA guns to arrive and for rigging to be done over the weekend. The photos are a good source, but not so clear in some areas.

I had the same problem when I built my Sullivans as Gatling last year. I had to replace ALL the weapons on that kit with L'Arsenal versions.

This question may apply to other DE classes, too:

Is there a pattern of anti-skid surfaces to replicate on the DE's decks? If so, where might I find a diagram of said pattern? Intent would be to make some ALPS decals for it, or at least gen up some masks for airbrushing. If there is no such animal, I will gladly just paint the decks dark blue/gray. In any case, what color would that be?

From what I know, antiskid patterns were not on all ships, and where those were, these were laid out differently...

Deck paint color depended a lot on the camouflage measure used. Check http://www.shipcamouflage.com for the exact scheme applied to your subject. Most common on the DEs were apparently MS 21, MS 22, and different variations of MS 32, some rare ones sported variations of MS 31.

Where is your work??? I haven't seen any postings lately and I don't see anything in the gallery. Is anyone currently working on this kit?

I am finishing up on my Dragon Buchanan and I'm ready to start in on this one, so is there anyone out there? Along with the Trumpeter kit I also have the GMM PE set for enhancements.

Hi Everyone,

I am building the Trump' kit as HMS Ekins in 1944 guise and wondered if anyone knows whether the bridge gunnery control tower was an enclosed box or had an open top? Or indeed, any other details greatly appreciated.

The Ekins K 552 operated as a Coastal Forces Control ship. A 2 pounder MkVIII on the bow. The Ekins also had an observation shelter added to the aft end of the open bridge.

Does anyone have any pictures of the rigging? I was hoping to find an overhead or three-quarter view so that I could see the attachment points. I'll been looking over at Navsource at all 102 Buckleys hoping to see some clear pictures with varied results.

While building the Trumpeter England, at step 10, would anyone enlighten me as to the identity of the following parts;

C27,C24, C25 and A4.

PS I tried, for the very first time to bid on an item on EBAY, the book Anatomy of the Ship - USS England. It started ridiculously low at $1.99 and I bid up to $31 but lost.

A4: Optical Rangefinder of some sort, I believe (1.5 Meter?).
C24: Possibly pale imitation of Mk. 51 director
C25: Large searchlight
C27: The thing from which speed orders are issued, I think. I don't quite recall what it's actually called.

A question to those with the AOTS England book or those that might have plans...

Would the flying bridge of England be similar to the FB of the USS Slater? This link, http://www.ussslater.org/decks/flyingbr.html shows a general layout not unlike the Trumpy kit. I've been looking on the internet to find out if the USS Slater, a Cannon class, is mostly similar to a Buckley class. The overall dimensions and general layout looks close but I don't know for sure. The flying bridge certainly is very visible, I would like to super detail this area if I have some guidance.

It's been a rainy Saturday, time to work on ships!

I spent some time looking at the USS Slater website, which is a Cannon class DE. As far as I can tell the difference is the propulsion system and the stack as compared to the Buckley class. The Slater website has a few pics and a great diagram of the flying bridge along with pics of the USS Hilbert DE-742.

Since I don't have any pictures to go on for the Buckley class and I really wanted to add some detail to that area I decided to copy what appears on the Cannon class as I am hoping that they are very similar. It looks like the deck surface just behind the engines controls was elevated and composed of wood decking with lots of square holes - I thought that catwalk PE looked very close to the same appearance. The Captain's chair, the port side hatch to the sound hut locker, the Booby hatch down to the Bridge, stairs and railings were scratched. I guess the Trumpeter lookout chair are pretty close - I will install them as per the instructions. I think I'll use the 3D figures that came with the Dragon Buchanan to flesh out the flying bridge as this is the first ship that I've built that has a functional deck area that is exposed and actually seen in the finished product.
