I have corrected the stripe pattern on my model to match that of the newly received color photo.

A little more work to my PT Boat Tender USS Oyster Bay AGP-6. I've scratch built a Torpedo Splinter Shield that should work for both port and starboard sides. These shields protected the outboard main deck area where torpedos were stowed along the superstructure bulkheads. Both seaplane and PT Boat tenders carried torpedos. The PT Boat tenders had additional shields on the aft end around the engine and torpedo maintenance shops.

After WWII these shields became more-or-less merely companionway enclosures and sometimes called "air castles". The USCG versions most often had openings cut in them, at eye level, to accommodate visibility from behind them.

These shields don't come with the ISW USS Mackinac Kit. I hope to donate some to Jon to mold and include in his kits. A friend is going to help me and make resin molds of my prototypes.

I made a little more progress on my PT Boat Tender USS Oyster Bay AGP-6, this weekend.

New progress started with creating new bulwark and sponsons on the outboard the bridge area. Then top deck aft extension and top sponson support platforms.

Then the top sponsons support stanchions. I also added some lockers, doors, and gas cylinders.

Additional progress on the Oyster Bay.....

Planning the layout of the Pilot House Top........

I've decided to open a few doors on my Oyster Bay. It was probably hot in the Philippines in October 1944.

This is about my fifth attempt at making a decent Torpedo Splinter Shield. (Torpedos were stored behind this shield, along the bulkhead.) A friend is going to cast this is resin, for me. It should work for both port and starboard sides.

I air brushed some Mr. Surface 1200 on the forward superstructure checking for fine-tune sanding that is needed.

Image

I created some Lumber Storage Rack Lockers and attached them on the aft superstructure and added some additional detail along the aft splinter shield and O1 deck edge. I had to straighten out the edges of this deck, on both sides, to bring them outboard just a little. They were kind of crooked, as well.

A lot of small items, yesterday. I finished up the sponsons and bulwark around the bridge area. I re-did the fire control platform on the pilot house top. The one that I made, previously, was for AGP-7 not AGP-8.

I added a couple of vertical ladders and drilled the hole for the mast and made a cutout next to it for an inclined ladder.

Here are some water barrels, the vegetable locker, and some gas cylinders behind the stack.

Image

Image

I started working on the fire control director tower behind the stack. I still have some more work to do on it. As you can see, with the 40mm gun tubs and the tower in place, you can't see the details that I have placed behind them. But, I know they are there.
