Thanks Mark! Thanks Russ!

I'm contemplating doing a floating ice waterscape with this one using melted white candles broken into pieces of varying sizes and shapes and the ship passing through at very, slow speed.

This is just a practice layout..........

Looking good Carl.
You should write a paper on PE. It's always perfect.

Thank you, Bigdaddy!

I have found that a PE fret of rails from Tom's Modelworks has the perfect width between stanchions for the smaller areas around my AVP models. I just wish that there were more of these short width sections on the fret. I talked to Richard Harden at the Nats and he said that he try to make another fret with more.

Here is some progress on the floating-ice water base that I'm working on for my USCGC Cook Inlet.

The base is mostly done with the exception of a sprinkling of snow. Now, back to finishing the ship.

That water looks really cool, Carl (no pun intended). This has been a very accomplished build so far and I'm looking forward to the finished project. Excellent job!

Thank you, Mike! I'm especially, glad that you like it.

I'm hoping that the ship will live up to the "cool" effect of the water/ice base.

I assembled and attached the WEM SR Radar, this evening.

The pedestal is scratch built from styrene stock.

I covered the Mk51 and Mk52 gun directors with black tarps as well as the Quad 40mm gun.

I created and attached the "bomb booms" which handle cargo at the rectangular deck hatch.

All of the canvas covered railings are completed using Krystal Klear.

I added the accommodation ladder and the boat "bumpers" below and outboard of the boat cradles and all of the davits are attached along with all of the railings.

I'm waiting on some custom decals for the hull numbers; Black "W"s are hard to come buy in the right size. ( W384 ) And these cutters had orange radio call sign letters atop the balloon shelters ( NYLW ). I think that the ship's name was on the fantail in black letters, as well. My model will have that, anyway.

Then, all that should remain are permanently attaching the foremast and crane and rigging them out, finishing up the small boats (oars and tie down rigging), and about six more vertical ladders and two canvas covered 20mm guns and two search lights.

She's really coming together man! Those canvas covered railings are spot on :thumbs_up_1:

How did you do the tarps over the GFCSs and guns? Sorry if it was covered already.
