This is my USS Cowpens firing her first missile into Iraq (I think she fired the very first one, but am unsure).

The base is simply a n 8x10 photo frame into which I poured plaster of Paris. I just adopted the idea of using photo frames as the stiff board plus the glass inside makes a very strudy base, which you can build a sea. I painted the plaster with simple acrylic paints them slathered on some Mod-Podge. This method is much easier and give a better seathan the crumpled fiol method I was using (although it is a bit messier). The missile is a SM-3, I know it should be a tomahawk, glued to a piece of sturdy wire which was wrapped and overed with cotton. Regula cotton balls were IMO too coarse, I used the cotton from several Q-tips and it gave me the poofy smoke I was looking for. I will try to take some better photos once she is complete.

I agree, it's quite a nice piece of work. Sure, ok, it's not the right missile, but in the end, the whole assembled product is pretty impressive. It's nicely done.
