Actually, it looks like the outer edge of the center elevator. You can see in the distance the curve of the forward starboard corner.

You are right it's the outer edge of the elevator but l wanted to show the metal structure what l called the "pits" where the cable rested..here check these pics...and thank you for your comment

Dear all here is today's update on the carrier. I finished the super detailling of the 2 parts of the flight deck and placed the first cables and brakes..have a nice evening and enjoy

Dear all here is today's update on the carrier for the diorama battle of Coral Sea...l placed the port's platform and bow's catwalk connection

the bow mounted flagstaff was not mounted like you have it on the model but appears to be mounted on the backside of the 20mm gun tub as shown in this link. https://www.navsource.org/archives/02/020503.jpg

The flagpole will be removed...and the tube that you see there is connected with the 20mm platform and of course l will place it

Dear all here is today's update on the carrier l had to make a massive correction for the 20mm oerlikon platform...it was misplaced by the plan..so l had to move it forward then removed the flagpole (thank you FFG-7 ) that was not on the carrier at that moment of time, finally l added a bended tube on the platform itself...and last by not least l started stern's platforms.
