The vertical item to the port of the upper coning tower door is a wave guide for the radar unit mounted on top.

Coming along nicely!

Cheers. Tom

Hey Tom

Late reply from me, I wasn't on much this weekend. I'm not sure I'm understanding which area/part you're referring to. I looked back at the last few pictures, but....I don't get it! lol Help me out so I know what you're talking about!

Thanks again for watching.

Brett

Still plugging along slowly on my New Jersey. Not much of an update, but a few new things added. Still need to build the other two directors and get them painted.

Hey everyone.....been a while! Still working on the New Jersey, but spring has been taking my time with yard!

Just a question for you in the know......is this a door??

Image

Any insight would help before I stick a watertight door there and find out one shouldn't be!

That whole area under there is open and that "door" and two more, perpendicular to it are just ovoid pass throughs, the size and shape of a door. Look through my photos of BB-64's area and you'll see. Be mindful though, they are different on some/all of the ships.

Yep, about to start some work on the part I posted above. I haven't had much time lately, camping and out of town. Nothing this weekend and it's a downpour, so time to get some work done!

Small progress today, I hollowed out the "doors" Tamiya had moulded. Also, opened up where the ladders between decks would on level 3, 4 and 5 (not shown).

Still have lots of clean up as you can see, but it's taco time!

Feel free to tell me where I need to change anything I might have done wrong!

Thanks for looking.

More progress, even if it's slow to come.

Progress speed? Well, i'm on and off on a 1/350 NJ wich I started in September 2007...... and it is still waiting in my showcase ;) for almost 8 years now:

And behind is the start of a '68 NJ build. You see, much to do :)

Abeam the flag bags, inboard is a support beam for the tower, This actually abuts the flag bag and passage is made via an opening big enough to easily step through in the beam. I see the kit omitted this opening.

4 month gaps are normal on updates, right? I haven't really done a lot with the New Jersey, but I figure.....wooden decks, share! Since the weather is getting colder, more time spent indoors = more model building! (Just ignore that I built the U.S.S. Reliant and half a MH-60G in that 4 month gap ;))

New work done, let me know if you see errors.

And off topic, here's the Reliant

Beautiful work, nicely detailed!

Love the starships, too.

Thanks Martin!

I meant to ask this last night, would the area I've pointed out be painted deck grey or haze grey?

Thanks everyone for feedback :)

More work being done on the New Jersey. Another deck with completed railings, tiny ladders in between decks (lost one somehow, looked like it was cut from the PE....but I don't remember ever removing it :(). Getting there.

Feel free to point out any errors I need to fix!

Tiny, little ladders....hidden in there. I'm glad that the ship isn't this big since I can see some rough work I did! ha

I have this same kit with the Pontos upgrades, I have to admit that I'm a bit intimidated by it all as I haven't dived that deep before. I look forward to your future post and I'm very interested in your experiences with the wooden decks.
cheers,
Ron

Doing some remodeling in my the office/hobby room, so updates are a week or two away. But, so far, the wooden decks have been pretty easy to lay out. I'm hoping that they'll stay down nicely and I won't need to use any CA to hold them in place later on.
